Rustproofing Rear Subframe
Has anyone found a reputable rustproofing company who will just treat the rear subframe. The ones I have contacted only want to treat the whole car.
Re: Rustproofing Rear Subframe
As the X350 is mostly aluminium, there's no point trying to rust-proof the whole car!
As to the subframe, you're probably asking the wrong question. "Rust-proofing" cars usually means injecting wax or oil into cavities. As far as I know, the subframe has none.
I think what you need is a paint job with decent rust-resistant paint - typically zinc-based primer to start with, and stone-chip protect to finish. Most decent garages should be able to do that. The hard part is dismantling the suspension to get the subframe out, if you want a really thorough job; as the various bolts involved are notorious for being seized, this could take literally days!
Perhaps some a "repair the visible rust" approach might be sufficient - other members might be able to contribute experience here.
