Changing wipers

Postby venge » Tue Jan 06, 2015 5:58 pm

Can't believe I am asking how to change windscreen wipers, however I have a problem in that I cannot lift the wipers on my car to change the wiper blades. I am informed thet there is someting I should do before exiting the car that allows the wiper arm to be lifted but am not sure what it is I am supposed to do!! Anyone any ideas on how I do it?

Hope that all makes sense.

Good question, no idea! There is a thread here from the US site though:

There is a service mode where you can park the wipers halfway up the screen, however I do not know how to do this

I just raise the arms up a couple of inches and slide out the old blade, you do not need to lift it very far away from the screen

two minute job

venge,

There shouldn't be an issue. Even with the wipers parked, you can just lift the blade a bit off the screen and change it. What is the problem you are experiencing? Can you post a pic so we could advise?

No worries Paul, job done, was a bit of a fiddle on the o/s one but got there in the end. Thanks for your help.

Got a problem with the washers now mind (never rains but it pours). Seem to have a blockage somewhere. I can here the pump when i press the button at the end of the steering column arm but no water getting through. Traced it back as far as the point where the tubing goes through the wing and all seems clear there. Looks like I might have to start at the other end where the reservoir is and see if I can find any blockages at that end. Is this a common problem do you know or is it just my current streak of bad luck with this car raising its head again?

Regards

Had blocked washers some time back; there was sludge in the fluid reservoir that blocked the pump intake. I suspect either mixed washer fluids reacted to make the sludge, or bacterial/fungal growth. I wrote up how to get the reservoir out for cleaning (for my late version X350, AFAIR it's different for earlier ones) on this BB thread, though sadly no pictures.
