I have just had a call from a member who was about to go out for the evening and his car was found to be dead with brakes stuck on gear change lever stuck and many other problems.
He had been using it mainly at night on relatively short trips so a flat battery was thought to be the the problem.
On opening the boot he found about 3 inches of water in the spare wheel well. The boot carpets were dry so the water must be coming in from somewhere fairly low down. It has been raining a lot recently so can I suggest you all check for water ingress. I have had a couple of previous conversations about water ingress caused by defective sealing between panels though Jaguar would not admit to a manufacturing problem. The panels are riveted and glued together so any missing glue could allow water in. There are several electronic modules low down all around the car so any water could cause all sorts of faults.
Worth a quick look under the boot floor and check the rear carpets just in case.
I will report in the magazine on this issue and what damage was caused and the solution.
Warning please check
Re: Warning please check
A common issue on early and in some cases later model S-type, Barry although I`ve not heard that a similar scenario has been applicable on a 350.
Typically on an S, was the boot lip rubber seal was the culpret. Later came issues with tail light cluster sealing, panel joint sealing and venting around the rear horizontal leg apertures. The boot located S-type electrical fuse box, electronic modules etc could easily drown in standing water which could for those reasons above, could drown in the spare wheel well space below the boot floor panel.
Those problem areas on an S-type would best be checked for integrity on the 350. A short term answer or indeed a belt and braces answer as a gravity induced fix is to drill a 6mm hole at the lowest point in the wheel well floor. At last then what gets into the boot can exit via the hole!
Thats about all I can offer as a starter.
Mike.

Re: Warning please check
Hi Mike ,
So what did I suggest to the guy?
Drill a hole in the boot floor!
If the water was coming in through the boot lid then the boot carpet would be wet and the light seals would also wet the floor. He is getting it looked at tomorrow so hopefully he will get back to me when he has had a look on a ramp to see if there are any obvious leakage points. He has emptied the water out but I am not sure if it will cure the problems when he gets a new battery fitted which was bust. There are electronic modules all over the 350 as well as a few earthing points which have a tendency to corrode away.
Will post more info when I get it but am distracted by having an implant fitted tomorrow.
NO not one of those ! A tooth implant , it is a gory process involving large diameter drills and socket set (honestly) it will be good to get the gap in my front teeth filled, fed up with being Goofy.
I hope you are having better luck with your health. It was good to see the boss of Atos(?) getting heavy stick in last weeks Sunday times.

Re: Warning please check
Hi Barrywi,
Further to Mikes comments above, there is considerable discussion on the S type section in respect to this topic which is worth a read, much of which is along the lines you have described. Although we are talking of different models it may trigger one or two thoughts for investigation.
From my experience, simply gazing up whilst the vehicle is on the ramp is unlikely to reveal too much. This task needs some pretty serious looking into.
Good luck with it

Thanks for that I will have a read when I get over my 2.5 hour dentist chair ordeal
Re: Warning please check
Please email me for a copy of a Jaguar technical bulletin covering this problem. I cannot seem to upload the pdf to here
Re: Warning please check
Hi all
With ref to water leaks into the boot , i believe there is a Jaguar technical bulletin for the X350 for this problem , if memeory serves me right one of the points of ingress is where the rear outer wings join the panel under the rear window , if you open the boot you can see the joint in the top corners , water can enter between the panels , the recommended cure on the bulletin is the run a bead of sealer along the joint , im also sure theres other points thats mentioned where water can get in , ill see if i can find it in my files and post the bulletin number etc
Best of luck
Steve

Re: Warning please check
Hi all
Further to my last post I have found the technical bulletin for " Entry Of Water Into Vehicle - Possible Sources " its for the X350 and is bulletin number XJ501-07 . It covers water ingress into all manor of areas , Luggage compartment , Spare wheel well , License plate lamps ,Front foot wells both sides , Rear of the Cabin and for you LWB owners water into both rear foot wells ,it would appear that Jaguar missed some sealer off !!
If anyone would like a copy please let me know your email and ill get one to you,
Barry ill send you it , hope those gnashers are ok ?

I'd be obliged if you could send me a copy. I haven't got a problem but it'd be good to have the info. Best regards, and thanks for your efforts again!

Re: Warning please check
hi guys,
I'm just in the process of buying a 350 of 06 or younger so I don't know whether I'm going to meet this problem. Can you let me know which are the general warnings and, given that I live in Ireland, could someone send me a copy of the above ?
Might come in handy. Thanks, Fred.
