Insurance Premiums....again

Postby ptjs1 » Thu Sep 06, 2012 11:50 am

You may have seen in this months magazine the correspondence relating to Footman James. It was mentioned that brokers such as FJ "need" to have a defined competitive quote that they can play back to their supporting insurance companies before they can offer a revised lower quote.

For the past few years, the insurance for my Jaguars has been with Adrian Flux and the renewal for my X350 has just come up. Car is parked on the driveway, no points on licence, one lo-value joint-blame accident 4 years ago, 4 yrs non-protected NCB, £750 excess and the quote was £640.

I phoned AF and armed with quotes from moneysupermarket.com, I managed to get protected NCB, a lower £500 excess and a revised quote of £360, insured with the same company as per the original renewal quote!

I know we keep saying it but insurance renewal is now a very cynical process. No matter how competitive your renewal premium might seem to be, you MUST look around for alternative quotes if you are to persuade your existing company to offer you the best figures.

I totally agree with that, do not think you are "loyal" by staying with your current insurer, the best deals are to be had with companies looking around for new business. It does not mean going with a less secure company because if you use confused.com or similar you can choose from different companies offering similar quotes. Just make sure you check out all the details of the quote though, you may find a slightly dearer company offers you more benefits such as RAC membership or a courtesy car if you do have an accident. They may also try and add some unneccessary cover so just take your time to compare.
I spoke to Martin from Footman James at the recent major Jaguar event and he said that you can now classify any car over 5 years old as a classic ( such as the 350) and get good cover especially if you agree to limited mileage. I have no connection with them at all and other companies may offer a similar deal.
