Took my 'new-to-me' Sportbrake into the dealership last week for a free (yay!) security related software upgrade. All good, car returned after 45 minutes, and off we went.
There is now, however, a brand new (to me at any rate) line on the trip computer at the bottom of the speedo. It consists of three microscopic symbols each followed by 5 vertical bars. Mostly when moving these are coloured green but very infrequently they turn yellow. When stopped they are grey (image below).
Close inspection with a magnifying glass suggests that they might be a foot on an accelerator pedal, a speedo or tacho and a drum brake.
Can't find anything in the on-line guide (https://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/model/ ... X9LCY86463) although I find this is very good at concealing useful info, so my question to the community is:
Does anyone know what this new item is about and what information it seeks to convey?

Re: New line on the trip display
Hi almcl, you will find that these are "standard" on the newer JLR vehicles and are an indicator for economy. Yes, the accelerator pedal is there, along with a speedo and the roundel is braking. Green means you are driving efficiently, according to the brain of the vehicle at least, a reduction in the number of vertical bars in each of the 3 areas indicates you are being less than economic, and if you engage cruise control the acceleration and braking icons will disappear but speed indication will remain.
They likely appeared because your software update had these included - nothing sinister.

Re: New line on the trip display
Hi Al, there should be a mention of them in a later model vehicle handbook - I know they have been in my Range Rover Sport (RRS) vehicles since 2013, i.e. the last 4 iterations have had this indicator. I have not run a modern Jaguar of late, but will have access to the handbook of a 2023 XF Sportbrake this weekend and will look in the handbook to see if it is shown there.
Alternatively, I will look in the handbook for my RRS and see what it says there.

Re: New line on the trip display
That's very kind, Jim. Thank you.
Afraid my '20 plate Sportbrake didn't come with a paper handbook (not sure if such a thing even exists anymore?) and I end up using the online info referenced above, so something from a printed book will be quite interesting!
Cheers

Re: New line on the trip display
Hi Al, unfortunately the later Sportbrake visiting today only has the digital handbook, which I have looked through and it is not mentioned in that at all. In fact it is not mentioned in the handbooks of my Range Rover Sport, digital and paper copy, so at a bit of a loss to go further.
As given above, it is an economy indicator as a driving aid, but you can get trapped or sucked in to trying to keep all the green bars in the display, which can suck the fun out of spirited driving.

Re: New line on the trip display
Thank you for looking, Jim.
Sad about the state of JLR's documentation though.

Isn't that the truth? i'll go back to ignoring it!but you can get trapped or sucked in to trying to keep all the green bars in the display, which can suck the fun out of spirited driving.

Re: New line on the trip display
I think that bottom part of the display can be changed to show different things, by fiddling with the menu options, try pressing the menu on the steering wheel buttons and then scrolling through.

Re: New line on the trip display
Cheers Andy, you just reminded me that the green bar display can be changed, not by the "menu" button but by toggling the button on the end of the left-hand stalk.
