Drop in power! Help

Hello all,

I wondered if anyone can spare me some knowledge. I have a 2010 XF 3.0 Diesel and recently I’ve notice that the car is losing power at a certain point whilst accelerating.

General it will be when trundling around town and perhaps I’m slowing accelerating around 1000rpm to 1500rpm. It’s is almost as if the car is in a gear too high for itself - although I understand that it would go up a gear for economy etc.

You notice it happening by feeling a faint and short spluttering, which is only momentary and usually goes as my foot goes further to the floor! However, I wondering what is causing this, whether it may get worse and what if anything I could do to resolve it. I’ve had a look online, but that’s not really specific enough. Any help would be great.
