My first Jaguar, a newly acquired XF

Postby lizandbob.mansell181 » Tue Nov 17, 2020 4:41 pm

Hi,

I have recently purchased a 2018 Jaguar XF Portfolio (2 ltr Petrol) from a main dealer. This is my first Jaguar after having Mercedes for the last 15 or so years which all gave me great service and BMW prior to that. My main reason for changing was that I wanted a petrol car and I did not want a diesel or a black interior, which the majority of Mercedes seem to have these days. The car I have bought ticked loads of boxes for me, low mileage (15k), oyster interior, Rosellau red, panoramic roof as well as lots of other goodies! I think when the car was first ordered most option boxes were ticked!

The car is still currently under Jaguar warranty and to make up the rest of the year Jaguar used car warranty. My questions are (1) is it possible to extend the Jaguar warranty when the warranties that I currently have expired and is this worth doing, plus approximate cost and (2) is it worth taking out a Jaguar service contract, also is this worth doing. Additionally can the sat nav be updated on services?

Also is it possible to obtain a build history for the car (similar to the Heritage certificate I have for my MGB GT).

Any help appreciated

Hi Bob, as long as your car still has at least some of the original manufacturers (3-year) warranty period remaining, which it seems to have, you should have no issue to extend the manufacturers warranty when it nears the end, i.e. approaching its third birthday. Not sure what is the case where it has a top up warranty to make the used car warranted for one year? The link below will take you the page on the Jaguar Cars website where you can obtain a quote. Quite straightforward to use.

https://www.jaguar.co.uk/owners/warrant ... ranty.html

There are two options for the extended warranty, full and partial, with an obvious price differential, but you can explore the options on the Jaguar website as per above. As to whether it is worth it - you pays your money and makes your choice. My own XKR is now just over 10-years old and I still maintain the full version of the extended warranty for peace of mind. Never had to call upon it, so quite an expensive insurance policy for that peace of mind, but makes me feel good.

Standard wording says you can extend the original warranty, for a fee, up to 10years of 100k miles, but when my car got to 10 years old, Jaguar still offered to warrant the car because it was well below 100k miles, result in my book.

A service plan, not so sure about the merits of that one. Some dealers still offer the +3 service deals on Jaguars over 3 years of age, but by no means all dealers do.

Satnav update is not a service item but a seriously costly update process depending on whether it is a disc based system or a hard drive. If yours has the InControl package, you may well be in a position to buy additional subscription at the third birthday. Typically, the InControl bundles in other services that you may want to have though, so it might be a given.
