Hi,
I looking for some advice on MK9 braking system, on a recent run I found brakes needed pumping to slow the car as the peddle was traveling almost to the floor, but pumping made the peddle firm again. There doesn't seem to be any fluid leaks as the brake fluid level is fine and there's no sign of leaks around the master cylinder. Could it be something to do with the vacuum braking system don't know much about them on the mk9?
Any pointers would be appreciated

Re: Mk 9 brake fault
Hello Goldy1,
the first thing to check is for air, by bleeding the system. Indeed it is probably worth replacing the existing fluid as it does deteriorate with age.
Do you need to top up the fluid from time to time?

Hi Alec,
Will try that, its just that it had been fine then suddenly happened, so didn't associate with air in the system as I said the fluid level hasn't dropped,
As you say its probably worth replacing the brake fluid, will get on it tomorrow.
Thanks

Hello Goldy1,
if you get a hard pedal from pumping the pedal, it's inevitably air. I know you said the level was fine but that doesn't mean that you don't top up from time to time?
A servo fault will normally give a heavy pedal but not a low one. Do have visual on all the flexibles while you are underneath.
Is the car new to you or are you a long time owner?
