James,

Have a word with Colin Rathbone, Bristol Region.

His V12 XJS is a real flyer on the track. AJ6 inlet manifold and ecu mods, very smooth competition suspension, minimal exhaust, racing clutch and Getrag 5 speed gearbox. Goes like the proverbial bat and one of the fastest cars I`ve ever driven.

Essentially, the above link lists what can be achieved given enough time, effort and money. Everyone tunes differently and results vary according to what you do to the car. Tom Walkinshaw of course wins the prize as far as XJS racing developments went. He really got these cars sorted.

Tuned cars are great fun. The V12 responds well but on the track we found that a well prepared AJ16 could give us a real run for our money on the Indy circuit at Brands. The AJ16 car we did battle with was lighter and rather more agile that the V12 we were using. Quite a lot to do with power to weight ratio.

You sound as if you are about to build a racer?

Hi Mike,
Would love to, time and money my two enemies at the moment, but still like to keep abreast of any useful tips. I will one day get a car on a track. Just may take longer than I would like.
