Failed Boot Lights

Postby SLAMCYCLES » Tue Nov 12, 2013 10:21 pm

Hello, I have recently purchased a 1999 XJR which is a dream come true, no issues to date except that the boot lights don't work, same circuit as the interior mirrors so not a fuse issue and the bulbs are fine, any ideas would be appreciated.

H

sounds like the usual broken loom fault

on the right hand hinge, the loom is covered in a plastic cover, , the loom breaks internally on the inside of the loom for one or more wires, usually indicated by a ' lumpy ' wire, or even broken right through , this happens at the flex point of the loom at the end of the plastic cover.

the fix is easy , pare open the loom , identify the damaged wires , and repair with a soldered connection , and some heat shrink,

the loom can be moved slightly to avoid any more damage in the same place
