replacing a Wiper Wheelbox

Postby doublesix73 » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:39 am

I'm struggling to replace the RH wiper wheelbox on my RHD S1 car.
How to undo the drive cable and rod that sits between the left and right wheelbox?
All advise most welcome!!
thx in advance :)

Hi Jan,

I am afraid there is no easy route - it all needs to come out :-(
With the dash pad out - the wiper motor needs to come out, and both wheel boxes removed with all tubes.

Cheers,
Keith

Hi Keith!

Thanks for the rather unpleasing news that ALL has to come out ;-)
What do you mean by the Dash Pad?
The wiper motor sits in the LH wing next to the battery, what's the best way to dismount the wiper motor?

Best regards,
Jan

Hi Jan,

The dash pad is the black dash top - above the wood.
The wiper motor is held with 2 7/16 headed bolts. Undo these, and undo the large nut on the end of the motor holding the linkage tube onto the motor. With the wiring unplugged - you can now draw the motor complete with gear out of the body.

Cheers,
Keith

HI Keith,

thanks indeed for the advise. Had the dash top off already to get access to the wiper wheelboxes but couldn't slide them out of their cavities due to the metal rod.
Dismounted the wiper motor and loosened the big nut fixing the rod's end to the motor assy enabling me to slide out the driving wire from the wheelboxes.
Will put new escutcheons from both sides before reinstalling the wheelboxes.

Last question to this topic is what grease should be applied to the driving wire?

Thanks again Keith and best regards,
Jan

No problem jan - happy to help.
We would use graphite grease on these.
