Richard,
I run my series 1 XJ12 on unleaded regular gas,(petrol). It does no harm to the engine, because Jaguars all have hardened valve seats, which is what you have to do if running a Triumph or MG on unleaded because BL didn't think the 'lower priced' cars were worth the extra effort! (At least that's what I've been told).

I think unleaded is fine because, as Phil said, hardened valve seats are fitted as standard although its because the cylinder heads are aluminium and therefore would wear out in no time if steel seat inserts weren't fitted.

It is my understanding that North America (or at least parts of) hasn't had leaded fuel since the 1970's and Jaguars have run there all this time without problems (well, valve seat problems anyway).

Hope this is some help.

Stuart

Hi,

All the info so far is spot on :-)
ALL V12 engines will run unleaded with no problems at all!

All the best,
Keith
