My name is Bob and I live in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I recently joined J.E.C. for the fraternity and technical advise.
From April 1998 until June 2007, I worked in the parts and service department at the local Jaguar dealership. Prior to that I did not know much about the Jaguar marque. Because of the background and passion of the people there at that time, I became very passionate about the brand. I am also blessed in having the opportunity to be in the right place and the right time to "intercept", on two occaision, Jaguar owners who were divesting themselves of very good specimens.
In the first case, a 87my XJ6 series III, Jaguar Racing Green with biscuit interior, 60k km miles. One owner and in very good condition. The second is a 94my XJ6, British Racing Green with Barley interior. When Anne and I purchased this one three years ago it had 14k kilometers on it! Again one owner and in mint condition!
The 87 car is my hobby car and I licence it only in the summer so that we can attend various get togethers. The 94 car is our daily driver and now has about 60k km on the odometer.
Our very first Jaguar was an 87my XJ40 (4.0 liter)with lots of kms. I learned a lot about the workings of Jaguar with this one (cylinder head gasket, heater motors and door handles, etc). So far I have been quite luckey mechanically with the two vehicles that we have currently. I plan to do some needed mechanical work the the Series III primarily due to age. The only thing that really comes to mind in the 94 car is the fuel pump. This can be a topic for another day if anybody is interested.
I am no longer at the dealership due to a philosophical difference between myself and the new owners. When Jaguar Cars introduced the concept of a world wide image in all the dealerships, the dealer principal who hired me decided that he did not want to invest that kind of money at his age, Therefore, the first option to purchase went to the local Ford family dynasty. I feel I was there at the end of the good times.
I wish that I could attach photos of my beauties maybe in the magazine. I will pursue this.
