what's going on with this forum, it's so quiet.
where is every one.?????

i pop in every day, but never find anything new to read.

once i get back onto my double six i will post up more pictures of the rebuild.

We have had a few threads on that subject, Arden, not just here but on another forum you and I both frequent.

Rather than have me rehearse my gripes again, can you think of anything we might do to improve things here?

well for one
lets move this section to its own forum with tech and for sale and wanted and all the bits the other forums have.

maybe it needs plugging more.

i have run forums before and i know its hard to get new people to join.

how about a series owners day out.

not sure what else to do.

Well, we've got an XJ forum co-ordinator, maybe we should ask him where he is on this site?

I only know who he is because he popped up on the other one. If he can't find it, what chance has anyone else got?

Bearing in mind that the title XJ Forum has been pinched by the XJ40/X300 crowd, what ought it to be called, the Series XJ forum?

i don't want to cause any trouble as i'm only a newbie on this forum.

Well i don't see why xj40 owners are combined with x300's either as i do believe they are technicaly a series 4 xj6 , but then again is an x300 a series 5 xj6 ?

I've got a feeling that the whole segregated aspect of the site is the reason for the lack of posts , for example i tend to log on to my particular interest part but i may have something interesting to say on any other part of the forums but keep changing forum sections is tedious and it just won't happen .

If it were laid out more like the JWM site or jagforum you would see at a glance what the latest post was , some people don't forget have had other cars in the past and will have knowledge and experience to pass on , there is also a lot of things that are common to all our cars like refurbishing , it's the same no matter what your model is ,

Let's hope the powers that be are taking notice of these comments

I think you're spot on there, Derek. Way too many topics, way too many forums. Start small, split up when it grows, would have been a much better recipe. A less clunky interface would be nice, as you also say.

Hi - bit of a nervous first timer. I joined the JEC last autumn after I purchased my '77 series 2 and imagine my disappointment when my first mag arrived and there was NO XJ forum. I have never looked at these web pages much because they are so clunky and not very intuitive (and I am the youngest member in my region so it's not me being doddery!). However, huzza - a forum has appeared in this month's mag so perhaps we need to get organised with our own site etc. At least we have a rallying point now! A travesty that the XJ name has been taken already, perhaps we should call it the REAL XJ Forum. Ha! Ha! I'm a newbie and I'm causing trouble....

Well done for finding it! Not many manage to and, yes, I think it's clunky, too.

The forum co-ordinator (or whatever title he's known by) posts in another place, but so far doesn't appear to have found this one. We'll have to drag him over.

Does your nickname reflect your car? I sold my SII about 18 months back but still have fond memories (and scars.)

hi and welcome to the forum, perhaps between us we cam get something going? could be tricky causing trouble if co=ordinator doesn't visit.I don,t get time to visit much during the week but havw had series xj,s and others for 8yrs and not without problems. I am 40 and not rich but do run a garage hence several cars so no stuffy rubbish but will help if I can. cheers simon

Hello everyone I have just joined this forum my name is Nick. I agree with your thoughts on the forum and a need to give it a boost. My only other experiance of using a forum is the land rover owner international forum which from my experience is very good and is used every day by regular contributers. Maybe that is the way forward, if we all moniter the site daily and keep threads moving it will create interest.

Hi almcl - yes the nickname reflects the car. I used to have a '76 Daimler which I bought in '85 and kept until last year. Unfortunately for the last few years it lived in a barn and was beyond economic restoration. But I just couldn't let it go until I had purchased another series 2. So my 3.4 arrived last September in it's original and lovely 70s paint job. My friends call it 'fecal brown' but I let them know it is officially called 'Moroccan Bronze' by Jaguar!
Twincamxk - yep you're right, we've got to check in daily, that's the only way to get the forum moving.

OK, here's a starter question. My 3.4 has velour seats, will leather seats from any series XJ fit? Apologies for those of you with a concours state of mind who I might be offending but I just like the look and feel of leather and don't want to buy a 4.2 just for that reason!

The seats from late model SIIIs were revised and all SIII seats were thicker, however, they all can be fitted. In fact, with a bit of fiddling, XJ40 seats have been made to fit.

The roof line in the SIII cars was higher, so if you are tall, fitting a SIII seat may cause height issues.

I may have some old SII leather seats in the loft, if you're anywhere near Telford and want to try them to see what they're like (fairly ropey IIRC) drop me a PM?

hi I have series 3 seats and xj40 and series 2 but they aren.t amszing. but if you are anywhere near oxford you can always try them. I would love to know from al how you got the rear xj40 seat in without being trimmer as I got some really nice ones from a 1990 daimler but couldn.t fit the rear in a series3 so it waits in the barn....... I finally got booked into thoresby today and will be taking a non show series 3 that is loved but used. I am looking forward to meeting you all and if you need any bits that will fit in a series 3 boot let me know and will try to help.
