Postby ericnagy » Mon Jul 06, 2020 9:25 pm

Hello.can anyone suggest a suitable insulation material to replace the missing/decayed lagging on the pipe which takes got air from the exhaust manifold around to the AED choke device on a 1974 series 2 xj6 4.2.obviously the material has to cope with temperatures in the exhaust manifold area.many thanks for any help or if you know of the correct insulation and where to obtain it.Eric

I think many of these suffer from deterioration over the decades.my pipe has a black dense foam lagging on about 40% of it and the rest has rotted away.I've had the car for 40 years and I'm in the closing stages of a bare shell rebuild and thought I may as well try and replace the insulation but it has to be capable of standing the heat.domestic pipe lagging would not cope.it's not a major thing as it still works regardless .thanks for your reply.Eric

You could probably wrap it in some form of glass fibre - that's what's replaced white asbestos in many applications. Possibly the stuff that's intended to keep pipes cool would do the job - it would just be working inside out.

I have purchased some replacement lagging for several pipes on the V12, got these from a company called Funk Motorsports, have to say in gold they do look funky... you can also buy these in silver and in several diameters and lengths as well
