Sovereign Coupe - Rear Window Glass Seals/Trim

Hi all,

Would be grateful for some help :)

My Daimler Coupe is missing some window trim bits. Its the horizontal metal trim, that should be mounted to the forward edge of the rear side windows and which holds the rubber seals which sit between the front and rear windows when they're both closed. The rubber seals I've found on SNG Barratt ... but the metal trim bit, although shown on the diagram, isn't referenced with a part number.

The diagram is here:

If anyone knows what part number this is or where I can get them, I'd owe them beer and dinner ;)

Thanks.

The rear window glass and carrier (frame) complete with the chromed trim were supplied as a single spare part which is why you won't find a separate part number for the trim. A trip to Stoneleigh on Sunday to buy a rear window might be a good starting point to locate the trim with or without the window! Mike.

Hi Mike - thanks! Stoneleigh? Is that an autojumble? Sorry, I've been out of the country for years and only due to return in the coming year or so...won't even see the car for another few months, and then only on a brief visit to the UK! ;)

Thanks,
J.

Yes, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire is the site of the biannual Jaguar autojumble, a useful place for finding those parts which eBay can't reach! Good luck with the restoration, Mike.

Hi Mike - I've spoken to a guy at SNG Barratt and he confirmed what you said. I wonder if the exact dimensions of it are available anywhere...I could always get a machine shop to make them up!

If you are willing to have some made, you still need a pattern to start from because you won't find the dimensions in any Jaguar publication. If coupes are driven briskly, the chrome on the trim piece suffers (wears away due to wind pressure) so you might be able to sell a few copies. Mike.

Hi Mike - yes it may come to that.

I know it's cheeky to ask...but I don't suppose you would you be willing to provide some close up photos of said trim piece on your car from various angles and some measurements? And perhaps even a cross section picture looking at it from the top?

Also, do you know the method by which it's attached to the glass (I presume glue with some sort of rubber surround preventing the glass and metal touching directly)?

Cheers,
J.

I'm happy to provide a few pics but I suspect because the trim is on the car, any measurements may not be accurate enough to use to reproduce it. Give me a few days to take a look at my car and send you some pics. As you say, the edge of the glass is wrapped in rubber before inserting it into the chrome trim. Mike.

Many thanks again Mike...owe you more beer!

Try these pics. Looking at the chrome trim in detail, it wouldn't be easy to reproduce because it's not a simple shape. To give you an idea of dimensions, the external width on show is 11/16". The depth across the top is 7/16" but from the point from where the internal rear facing flange commences, the depth increases to 3/4". Total length is 15.25"/15.5". Finding two scruffy versions and having them re-chromed is probably the easiest way forward. Mike.

Not all the pics attached to my first note so I'll add them separately.

Hi Mike - thanks so much again...as you say, they're quite complex shapes. I shall keep my eye out for some replacements.

But I will run your pics past a metal shop engineer that I know and see what he says...he's pretty clever so he may think it's doable.

Have a great easter weekend :)
