New to the Forum

Hi Everyone

I am new to this Forum and dont normally participate in forums as a rule, but the car is very close to my heart being owned by Grandfather since 1975.

It is a 1970 Series 1 4.2 in old English white (theres a storey here with Jaguar Heritage as well, another conversation topic on its own) with 34k mi from new and has been garaged since 1975..

when my Grandfather passed in 2005, the family sold it to a local Gent, he then called my uncle in '18 to ask a few questions as he was looking to sell it. Needless to say the car was in my garage within a week of that phone call..... and it had done less than 1000miles in the 13 years the local gent owned it, and he still garaged it..

its an interesting car originally due to be exported to Germany, but ended up in Barton on Sea, where it had an e-type carb setup done on it, it has a few options from new; with SS exhaust, elec windows, webasto roof (inc full vinyl).

Unfortunately i haven't used it much since either, as the tanks emptied themselves on my garage floor soon after and i have been sorting that out since, which of course the jobs list has grown arms and legs as i took the car apart. I am hoping to get it back running before Xmas, famous last words... I have learnt a few skills on the way, MIG welding and spray painting, its been great fun doing it with my uncle. It has also been a little frustrating at times, with my OCD getting in the way sometimes as i've wanted to balance keeping the car as original as possible, at the same time as restoring it to a good standard and future proofing it with different materials..

I'll post some pictures shortly... I am looking forward to car 'ringing' again when i start it...

Welcome to the classic series XJ forum! Yours sounds like an interesting car worthy of an article in the magazine along with a few pics. A wet afternoon during the Christmas holidays would make an ideal opportunity to pen a few words. Good luck with the rest of the work necessary to get the car up and running. Mike.
