Dear All
At my local car restoration company they have an red / orange (formely gunmetal grey) XJ S3 V12 Convertible 4dr of a customers which is wrotten but complete. Question is does anybody know if these cars are worth anything / anything about them like where they were converted. It is supposed to be one of seven cars that originally went to Jersey CI (don't know if this is relevant)
Just don't want to see it go to the scrapyard / banger racing if it has any interesting history / it is worth restoring. Could do with info quick as I think the scrapyard awaits!
Any info much appreciated and I do have photos

Hi Richard,
Just spoke to Graham to provide a quick answer for you and his response was:
"If it is an Avon Stevens Car (Known just as an Avon) and is in good condition it CAN fetch as much as 50% more than a normal S3XJ. If it is just a hack job done by someone privately it will not be worth much at all. The strengthening required to keep the car rigid is very expensive to do correctly. If the car is not in very good condition it will probably cost you more to put it on the road than it will ever be worth"
Hope this helps.
Regards
James

Update
From what I can tell it looks like ones done by Cabriolets International Poulton le Fylde Blackpool or Paul Banham conversions
Still need info though

I am not sure if Avon ever dealt with a cabriolet? Cabriolet international are more likely.
Looking for a home Richard! If it were nearer I would have it, but it's around £450 just to move it here

As far as I know, Ladbroke Avon, who produced the Avon-Stevens convertibles, only converted two door coupés (XJC) and only series 2 cars (there is one series one prototype). Some have been upgraded to look like series 3, but were not originally like that. I keep a register of all known Avon-Stevens convertible cars. Ladbroke Avon did convert some series 3 cars to estates.
1995 Jaguar Sovereign (owned from new), 1976 Daimler Double Six Avon-Stevens Convertible.
