Random Headlights

Postby jthorne » Sat Oct 22, 2011 8:33 pm

My '77 DD6 Coupe has started to have some random headlight issues. On normal dipped lights only the drivers side works, on main beam only the passenger side works :? :? :?

Any ideas as to the reason for this?

Thanks

Hello Jon,

dirty\corrroded terminals where the light units plug into the loom, poor earths at the light unit, also check that the lamps themselves haven't blown, but I'd go for poor connections as being most likely. The main beam wires are blue\white and the dip beam are blue\red.

Thanks for this, sorted!! The fuse boxes were bad and one has no cover. Cleaned and no no problem except that one inner headlight appears to a bulb down. I have no manual or handbook is this removed form the inner side of the bonnet and changed that way?

Thanks for your help!

If you remove the chrome trim ring (one screw & a sideways wiggle) you will see that the headlight is held in place by another bright ring fixed by 3 small self tappers. Be careful not to ruin the heads of these screws by using the wrong size screwdriver or you'll make a simple task unnecessarily more difficult. At this point the headlight will be free. The bulb holder should have the usual bent wire clip to retain the bulb itself. Mike.
