navigation.....lack of 'signposts'

Postby 555ttg » Thu May 28, 2009 11:58 pm

I have been 'wandering' the forums for years, looking for something that remotely resembles a SERIES XJ forum, imagine my delight, when I stumbled on this thread! I'm an ex-Pat Brit, living in Canada, and have been a dedicated Jaguar 'junky' for as long as I've drawn breath!(51 next September). Having owned almost every post war model available over the years, I feel that I have some experiences to impart on the newer Jaguar owners. Please feel free to PM me questions, if I can, I will help.

BTW the Mk2 forum, is about as 'dead' as this one seems to have been until today! Let's hope the word spreads, and we can inject some 'life' into these, unecessarily convoluted, hard to find, forums!

I would love to know from al how you got the rear xj40 seat in without being trimmer as I got some really nice ones from a 1990 daimler but couldn.t fit the rear in a series3

I haven't done it personally but see here:

thanks for that almcl I will look into that when I get a spare moment!. I think I may have too many cars which are not getting finished. I run a fiat and alfa specialists so the jags are purely a hobby. I have lots of bits from breaking several cars over the last 8 years or so just to keep mine and friends cars going without spending fortunes. If anyone on this site needs anything feel free to ask. I mainly have series 1 to 3 stuff but will be breaking my xj40 soon as I have tried to like it but it just doesn,t drive as nice as a series xj. Welcome to you overseas members and do use and enjoy your jags.

Hi everybody, well like most of you who have more than 1 car to get ready, I have been trying to 'assemble' the fleet ready for the summer's car shows, get togethers and so on.
Simon, any questions you have I will try and answer if I can, or will hopefully, point you in the right direction!

I have a LHD XJ12 series1 swb, rust free, original car, with 51000 miles, that I am trying to find a nice usable set of seats for, at the least, the rear seats. I am a great believer in using my cars, and I feel that old cars should be OLD, and with patina that they have earned over their lifetimes, so I don't want to re-trim this car, but am looking to reconstruct the interior. Preferably with a dark blue set of seats, but at a pinch, I will look at other colours, if nybody has a set. The series 1 and 2 seats are the same, with the perforated leather, so blue seats from either series would do, but NOT Daimler,(different pleats, no perforations).

I will try and 'look in' each day, but remember I am 5 hours behind the UK, so might not be online at the same time as most of you!

Hi everyone, perhaps we should rename this - no longer 'this is dead' more ' there are signs of life'...

Firstly thanks to Al Mcl and Simon 4253 for the advice and the potential seats - first question is colour - are they beige/tan? I want to keep the same colour. Thanks alot for the offers, I will definitely follow up if they are the right colour. This is proof if needed on how a forum works!

Apologies if my messages are a bit sporadic at the moment - moved house last week and apparently you must wait weeks to get broadband installed with another provider - BT defending their fixed line monopoly no doubt!

I am gutted but am going to miss Thoresby - I have a wedding to attend. Who's going? Any other shows people are thinking of going to? I hope to go the Southern day at Wroughton

Welcome to the forum 555tg. Good to have you onboard

Cheers

Alex

Thanks for all the welcome wishes.

I'm in Canada, but have loads of XJ40 stuff, interiors included. What colour/style are you looking for? I have 3 XJ40 XJRs here which I imported from the UK, all have the AUTOLUX sports interiors, all are 'parchment' with body coloured piping.
1 w/green
1 w/blue
1 w/black
all are excellent, I also have a 6.0litre V12 XJ40 with Daimler style seating, tan piped with caramel piping.
I also have a 1992 4.0litre XJ40 with ISIS blue interior,(driver's seat is a bit naff, but that is passenger seat for RHD)
I also have several series 3 cars, all V12 engined, I interior is MORROCAN BROWN, (like a mid brown, and the other is DOESKIN with caramel piping, the 3rd is also ISIS blue.

HI all finally caught another moment to visit. I only have one dark blue interior but from daimler coupe so prob not a lot of good for what you want. I know I hated breaking it but the roof was totally rotten and that scared me off. One day I will get another!.Looks like weather meant to be naff for sunday but they are wrong fairly often and at least my daimler looks great in the rain! I did want to bring my friend,s 420 but with it,s faults it may be too far to risk it. more on that later.

OK guys - no problem - thanks for the offers. Looks like I am still rearching for the tan interior!

Anyone go to Thoresby? The wedding I went to was good but not a Jaguar in sight..... ;-)

hi all sorry I didn,t get to meet you at thoresby but it took 4hrs to get there and it rained consistently so as I had my 10 yr old son with me we only stayed long enough to have a quick wander round which was a real shame but the weather just kept getting worse. We left about 3.30 and the floods made the trip home quite interesting too! There were some really gorgeous cars there which are probably still being cleaned off now! Mine i,m afraid is still grubby but behaving impeccably so I will try to get to more shows this year if only to finally meet more of you.

hi again to 555htg it sound like a rather nice fleet there. I do miss my v12,s but had to sell xjs as I have a familly! The last two blue saloons both got stolen so I,m getting a bit paranoid about them at present! The 420 I mentioned previously has a three speed borg warner auto and I think a powerlock diff but it is doing about 4000rpm at 70mph which seems rather high and I wanted to find out how to tell which box it has and if it is right for the car as I have some xj auto boxes which I could fit when the leaking rear main seal is tackled!t I have not tried 60,s jags until now as I have always had 70,s and 80,s ones so far. I do have a v8 mk2 project but I still haven,t started it .
