The effects of the floods on our cars

With the sunshine that we have enjoyed over the last few days the recent floods are easily forgotten, except of course for those folks that were involved and I feel really sorry for them.

The News programmes showed vehicles driving through the floods with great bow waves around them along with others that had simply drowned.

I'm intrigued to know what effects all this water had upon them, especially in the electrics department. With the known vulnerability of the S Type loom attached to the front bumper a good dunking in water or perhaps sea water will do things a fat lot of good.

Do buyers need to be more vigilant to avoid buying a vehicle that may have been flooded to some degree?

Remember the story of my black XJR last year/

Recon that had been for a sea water swim at some point in its life. The after effects were devastation on the structure. Rotten as a meddler.

I`ll not take J44 anywhere near the water. That would indeed be asking for trouble in the electrical department. They are difficult enough as it is let alone adding to the problem.

My latest candidate has a new Peugoet 508 RXH, this has a 2 ltr diesel driving the front wheels via an auto box, a large battery pack under the floor mid way and an electric motor to drive the rear axle!!!

When the garage service it they put barriers around it and the mechanic wears heavy duty rubber gloves. They say it has up to 400 volts????

He lives beside the river Humber and it came over the barriers just before christmas and got into the house. If he had had this car at the time that would have been an interesting fireworks display.
