2002 S Type R Project For Sale

Postby SteveKK » Mon Jun 11, 2018 5:41 pm

It is with much regret and a heavy heart that I must put my beloved S Type R up for sale. Having failed the MOT on rear brake disks and rusted rear silencer, plus advisories on the rusted sills, I have inspected the rust myself and feel it requires work to be used on the road again. The chassis around the rear suspension arm mounts is rusting and needs repair sections added to provide strength for this performance car.

I will try to be as honest and complete in my description, as I would love this car to be saved - less than 800 of these fast comfortable cruisers are left, so surely someone with more time than me could save it.

52 reg Jaguar S Type R 4.2 V8 Supercharged (400bhp) automatic in black with cream leather interior. First registered 30 December 2002. Covered 113,000 miles. 18" Zeus alloys with 235/45 18 Michelin Pilot Sport 3 on the front and 275/35 18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rear - the rear tyres are like new as they were fitted on 22 March 2018 and have only covered a few hundred miles. Usual S Type R specification, ie highly adjustable electric drivers seat (back/forwards, up/down, tilt up/down, lumber) with 2 memory settings, electrically adjustable steering AND pedals, Xenon headlamps with automatic adjustment and headlight washers, CATS suspension, heated front and rear screens, heated mirrors, cruise control, space saver spare (looks unused), CD with 6 disc changer.

The bad bits, in addition to the rust above are:
  • Bonnet (and possibly hinges and gas rams too) need replacing - has sustained damage after the bonnet cam up on me. The hinges and gas rams stopped it damaging any other part of the car. The damage is barely visible, only a couple of ripples around the hinge mounting points and slight misalignment of the bonnet - it just catches the OS wiper arm, but doesn't affect it's function.
  • All 4 wheel arches are showing signed of rust. The NS rear is worst and has been photographed.
  • The alloy wheels would been refurbishment as there are marks on all 4. Again these are in the photos, but there is no significant damage that I am aware of.
  • Polystyrene tool kit has broken up at the top - it still works and will hold all the tools in place.
  • Climate control will only cool if on low - potential DIY fix, see http://jaguarclimatecontrol.com/diagnose/
  • New rear brake discs required due to wear
  • Wing miiros don't alwast fold in/out properly, but will do with a little manual assistance
  • Last services in July 2015 at 104,000 miles (120,000 mile service)
  • Neeeds new rear exhaust boxes, or repair of existing ones
The good bits:
  • Comfortable and fast cruising
  • Tidy interior - with a valet it would looks very good, as the drivers seat shows minimal wear (see photos)
  • Strong engine
  • Bushes replaces at 104,000 miles in July 2015
  • Gearbox oil and filter changes at 90,000 miles (April 2013)
  • Latest gearbox adaptions loaded by Jaguar Master Technician at 93,000 miles (September 2013)
  • Rear tyres virtually new
  • Original handbook and service book in leather folder
  • A box file of history, with full detail of all work and parts during my ownership and limited history before
There are photos of the car here, but if you would like a specific part of the car photographed let me know (email steve@h4-turbo.co.uk).

The car is based near Woking, Surrey.

Open to sensible offers. If I don't sell the car complete I will break, but I would rather see the car returned to the road as these cars are too good to disappear from our roads.

Regards,
Steve
