Hot off the lights

Hi All,

Now, I am not your average little boy racer but nor do I plod around in my slippers. As perhaps everyone can appreciate, there are times when you just have to put some people firmly in their place aren't there?

But, to my embarassement I still cannot get my 2.7 xs off the lights as quickly as I would like.

I have tried burying the loud pedal in the carpet but this only seems to produce a slow take off until the turbos finally kick in then off she goes but oh too late as the offending driver is long since gone by then.

I have tried with sport button on and off, I have tried the slow take off let it change up then bury the pedal and try to get it to kick down but nothing seems to have the desired effect.

I know the kick down works as it has snuck up on my a few times when I was not looking and I know how fast this car can be. So...what is the secret to getting the "ARGA" as Clarkson calls it, lit of the lights. Yes I know it is a diesel but I can try to drive it like a sport car can't I?

Remapping does make a big differnce had my 2.7d done about 3 months ago and its a different beast now.

Try this on a quiet road first...
With Sport button on, use gearbox as manual, change up through the gears, that way the revs will be up and should bring the turbos in quicker.
Alternatively try experimenting with same side of J Gate but lock into 3rd or 4th, to give you more time to change up. I sometimes lock into 3rd with mine and it seems to keep me in the power range I'm after for off the line experiments

Would definitely recommend a remap, had my 2.7 diesel done last year and made a huge difference, though more noticeable at low speeds when trying to accelerate quickly. I agree about the standing start on this car, there is a definite lag from pressing the throttle to something happening, has nearly caught me out at junctions sometimes, I gather it only affects the diesel models, and I have to say the remap had no effect on this.

It may pay you to have a go in another 2.7 Jag and compare it with yours, because if you do have a problem that needs resolving, clearly a remap won't help you much. Have you checked the Air Filter, this is prone to getting very dirty at quite low mileages. I would also advise seeing if you can arrange to plug in a diagnostic tool that will read live data, this would indicate what boost pressure you are receiving at low engine speeds. My own 2006 standard 2.7 Sport will often spin its wheels when booting it from a standstill, the Traction Control will then intervene and reign it in. If you are not too far away from Solihull why not pop over and try mine. Regards Dave
