Restricted performance.

Postby trevor.pocklington781 » Tue Jul 19, 2022 11:54 am

Recently I took my 2007 S type for a motorway drive to clear the DPF. The DPF warning message was not displayed but I was being cautious as I had only been on short local visits.
After leaving the motorway and heading for home the warning message "Restricted Performance" was displayed and indeed I was limited to approx 2000 revs. This has now happened on two occasions. After returning home and leaving things alone for a while the message did not re appear when the engine was started and did not come back at all.
Does anyone know what may be happening? Could it be a heating problem?
Maybe I have a Jaguar that repairs its self :D
Thanks for any advice and stay cool. T

An OBD code reader, it plugs into the OBD port, which from memory is below the dash on drivers side, it will at least give you some information what is wrong. A basic one is cheap from various sites, eg eBay or Amazon. You can spend lots more which will give you a lot more functions, but start with a basic one, there are other posts on here about it, just search OBD code reader. Once you have some codes, post them back on and someone should be able to help. Alternatively if you have a good local garage they will have a code reader.

Hi Trevor,
One of the cheapest ways to read engine codes is to get one of these which helps alot with trouble shooting problems.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... &_osacat=0
It pairs with any android phone and an app called Torque which is free or you can get the Pro Torque App which is only a couple of pounds.
Here is a good thread from another Jag Forum about how to use the Torque app, worth a read:

Hope this helps a bit and good luck.
Take care and stay safe.

Hello. Apologies for my late reply and thank you for your help and advice. I will have a look at the OBD code reader route. T
