Hi Guys, I have a 2002 S type 2,5 Sport - Chassis No. SAJ-AC03NX21 M45329, Build date 22 February 2002 (Heritage Certificate)
The body colour is Aspen, the trim Heritage Tan. She has the revised Centre Console, Electric Hand Brake and 6 speed Auto Gearbox.
Here is my question ;
1. According to Website References, the S type was never listed with Tan Upholstery.
2. The Centre Console, Electric Hand Brake and 6 speed Box didn't become available until the 2003 MY.
Are the references wrong, or is my car something of a special on off? The interior trim option certainly appears odd.
I know it was supplied New to Co. Jaguar Cars Ltd as management vehicle in Feb 2002 and fitted with a telephone.
In June/July 2003 it passed through Jaguar Company Vehicles to is first 'civilian' owner.
I have owned her for the past ten years, with the current mileage standing at 160,000. Having spent a small fortune on her, she is in excellent condition throughout and a daily runner.
Maybe one of you Gurus can clarify the above points? I would be most interested. Thanks - John

Re: 2002 S type Specification.
I'm no expert but it sounds like you have a pre production car built for demonstration purposes. MY03 is correct for the Facelift S Type but for Jaguar this usually means September of 02. Not sure when these started shipping but yours seems too early for the main production switch that occurs after the summer break. Heritage Certificate from the factory or maybe someone here will give you more definitive details.
Re: 2002 S type Specification.
John,
A quick look at the Jaguar parts website pages seems to indicate that the EPB, revised centre console, 6-speed gearbox all became introduced at VIN M45255. Also Heritage tan upholstery became an option on Sports seats at VIN M45255 (70 cars before yours was built)
On the one hand, those features are referred to (AFAIK) as being 2003MY. But your VIN is referenced as a 2002MY (10th digit of VIN). I've also never known Jaguar to produce a car out of VIN sequence, even demo or early prod build cars.
So, that seems confusing. Your VIN indicates 2002MY. Your VIN indicates it's in the right VIN range for the revised features. But those features are commonly referred to as 2003MY. I'm not aware of what VIN is 2003MY (but Feb 2002 seems very early). So just maybe a lot of the 2003MY features were introduced in the 2002MY cars at the beginning of 2002?
Perhaps the S-Type Model Co-Ordinators have the definitive position?
Cheers
Paul
