Car cover

First of all, Seasons Greetings to you all and I trust that things went slightly better than expected.
Because, that's a win.

It wasn't persistently precipitating today so I decided to take the cover off the car, where it has been parked on the drive for the last 10 or 12 days, fire it up and make sure it ran ok.
Took the cover off and it looked like I had just been to a car wash and then put the cover on immediately afterwards, it was soaking.
I could barely roll the cover up it was so heavy with.......wetness.
Every panel was wet, the windows were wet and one of the headlights had condensation on the inside; to be fair that fit in quite well the general cloudiness of the lights but, jeez.
It was so horrible that I took the car to the local garage (did not Stop and Shop), braving the pot holes and puddles, and ran it through their brush wash thing, just replace the damp with fresh water.
Ran absolutely fine by the way so decided to take it the local for our lunchtime invite; absolutely fabulous meal of no chopping or cooking followed up by strong glass of zero washing up.
Went to the car and it was totally steamed up inside, had to put it into full defrost mode before we could leave.
Over £200 for an 'all weather outdoor cover, lets your car breathe' etc, as advertised through the club.
It would appear that this 'all weather' cover is fine as long as you keep it under cover.
Anyway, back to work Wednesday, back in to the gales so that will probably cheer me up a bit.

Hi Steve,

I have what is probably the same heavy duty ‘breathable’ cover on mine. I uncovered the car today after about 3 weeks of non use and had a similar situation, though not as bad as yours sounds. I dried it off and took it for a good run to get the oil circulating and some air flow all through it.

The spec does say that in heavy or prolonged rain water will get through, due to the slightly porous nature of the material that lets it breath, but that it should evaporate over time. It usually does on mine, eventually, but it depends how wet it’s been.

I don’t know what it’s been like where you are, but there’s been so much wet weather here for the last few weeks that the cover hasn’t had time to dry out hence the water underneath can’t escape. You do need to brush any snow off asap too. In fairness I don’t think any cover can completely prevent dampness in our climate.

It’s one of the reasons I’m looking to move next year so that I can get it in a garage at last.

Happy New Year to all. Let's hope it's a bit dryer than of late!
