Voice activation module

Hi all you S type owners, and clever people,
Don't know if anyone has had similar problems when driving alone ( ie nobody to take charge of radio, temp, navigation ect) but when one has glasses to see distance, the buttons incar are somewhat unclear. With this in mind i got to wondering if its possible to retrofit the voice control system, I have one located on Ebay the purportedly fits a number of jaguar's including the S type.
The part number is C2C24424 or 2R8F-14B292-BD My chassis no is SAJACO11077N74961.
Does anyone have knowledge or practical experience in fitting this module, I'm sure the wiring will be there blanked off somewhere on the car, which brings to me the question of whereabouts it would live, if its under the dashboard, it may be be much work to remove and refit.

SNG Barratt identifies that part number as being suitable for S-type, X-type and X350. If the -S type is similar to the X350 then it will be mounted in the boot as part of the CD changer and Sat Nav (if you have it) "stack". It is connected into the audio gateway by fibre optic cables as well as wiring, so although the connectors may be present you will need the fibre link cable.

Thanks for that ,Brian, just had an inspection in the boot , yes i have the multi disc player , and the jaguar navigation system on top.
Pushing back the flap of boot lining above these two units, you can see various groups of wires that all appear to be connected,
Ive gently tugged them and nothing is loose.
I think i need to find another S type owner that has the module factory fitted, thats fairly local to Milton Keynes. Don't want to buy the unit unless there's a good possibility of fitting it myself.

It is a fairly complicated hook-up procedure. The entertainment network is connected over the D2B Network and the "fibre optic cable" that I mentioned could be one of several different variants depending how many modules you have in your stack (e.g. phone, voice, CD player, Sat Nav) so it's not just a simple daisy chain connection; each has a "wake up" function as well audio. There are lots of used ones on ebay but you need the right one(s) for your configuration of modules. I had a quick look on SNG Barratt site and Jaguar Classic Parts but was struggling to find much help on part numbers for my XJ or the S-type on either of them.
A phone call to a good breakers like Eurojag may be of help for a used one.

I suspect that this would not be 'plug and play' and that it will need programming into the car which either a dealer or an independent with the right equipment (eg Autologic) will be able to do for you

Don't feel to bad on missing out; you aren't really, and even as second hand I expect the voice module is not cheap and you would be disappointed in value for money. I rarely use the voice module in my XJ as many of the commands are difficult to remember and cumbersome, such as when changing radio stations or phoning new numbers that aren't already stored. About the only ones I do use regularly are "Display Off" to blank the screen, rather than put a sticky fingerprint on it, and "Voice Guidance Cancel" for the Sat Nav when the woman's voice gets on my nerves.

I retrofitted mine, was very simple.

Plugged it in and it just worked, the only catch was it came out of a car with a Minidisc player fitted.

Once I fitted a minidisc player to the car it controlled that as well
