Time To Move On

Postby Montana5 » Thu Apr 30, 2020 11:14 pm

After 10 wonderful years of STR ownership and 10 years of Club Membership, its time for me to move on.
Without advertising, I sold my Car last September to Christopher Kenneth Smith, a new friend, fellow JEC Member and S Type Forum user, whom I know will take great care of it.

My Membership is about to lapse but I'll still look in here, though probably just once a day, instead of my normal four or five times, so now you can safely post away without wondering where the OCD sod has moved your post to

I may be back in the Jaguar fold in the future but only if JLR bring out a narrower and less lardy version of the F Type, one that's suitable for spirited driving on country roads, without having to slow down to squeeze past every time a Car comes towards you. In the meantime and perhaps until then I have bought another more apt contender off my wish list.. a Porsche Cayman GTS.

Cheers guys and all the best.

Very sorry to see you go, Doug.

I`m glad we had the chance to hook up in Troon several years ago. Great to have a beer together.

I never thought I`d see the day when you sold that STR. The new owner has probably the best example available.

All the best my old friend.

I'm getting a bit that way myself Doug I've had mine for eleven years now and thinking about a change. The problem I've got is that I don't like any of the newer models. However I'm not opposed to buying a well looked after X300/X308/XJS or even an XK ( ex China cars look very interesting) My problem with the first two is access to my garage. The garage itself is 20x10 Feet but the gap between the houses is 8Ft Anyway good luck with you'r new motor I hope you enjoy it as much as the STR

Cheers Jeff.

The two affordable Cars I always thought to have the loveliest lines, are the Cayman and the F Type Coupe, then to throw a spanner in the works the new Alpine A110 was introduced, having been a fan of the original Alpine, I followed the concept and build right up until the new 2018 (UK) model was introduced. In August 18 when the Launch editions were just arriving, I arranged for a test drive. It was a fantastic handling Car on the road and cornered on rails, very similar to the Alfasud, which I consider to be the best handling car I've ever driven. My main reasons for not buying one, and this was after a 40 mile test drive on my chosen roads, were the hard and crashy suspension and lack of cabin storage space, no glovebox, no door bins, no central storage, nothing, passenger seat or floor...that's yer whack.

So down to the other two, I had just fitted wall and base units to one side of my new double garage, so space was an important factor, My MX-5 sat nicely at one side and with the S Type the other, there was still enough room inbetween. The Cayman was 5 inches narrower and 4 inches shorter than the tubby F Type, coupled with the fact that a lot of my driving is done on twisty country roads the pendulum swung towards the Cayman.

Picked up the new car (2015 model) in August, sorned it for winter in November, so 3 months on and because of the present situation.. now 6 Months off, can't wait to get back out.

Well I've now bit the bullet and decided to have a change. So my lovely lady is in the classified section. Anyone looking for a 2.7 D.SE non DPF with full service history will struggle to find a better one The price is what I thought about right for the condition for year, but it is negotiable .

Well she's gone. So I want to thank everyone that has responded to my post's over the last eleven years providing help and advice. With a special thank you to Mike Kennedy who is no longer the S Type coordinator but still takes the time to answer post's on the model. I will still browse the forum from time to time and try to help anyone out if I can till my membership runs out in Feb.

Once again Thanks.
Jeff. :)
