Tow bar

Postby stypesteve » Tue Mar 01, 2016 8:10 pm

I had a tow bar fitted about two years ago and it was the worst thing I could have done, when the car is started from cold the back boxes vibrate on the heat shield for a few minutes until warm. Looking forward to having it removed. Has anyone else had these problems ?

It's the car telling you it is not designed to tow a caravan - like putting a milkfloat behind a Derby Winner- and to get it off again ASAP.

Hi Paul,
Sounds like a lousy fitting job to me or an inappropriate tow bar, certainly not my experience.

Or just the heat shields not being fixed up correctly?

Worth also checking the condition of the exhaust hangers on the back exhaust boxes. They fix up to the rear ali bumper bar which can corrode out letting the exhaust drop and rattling and knocking noise.

Isn't Steves car a later one and so has the later steel crossmember??

When I took my exhausts off and dropped the rear subframe I removed the exhaust heat shields and found the aluminium around the locating nuts had rotted off, so used large steel washers to resecure it all again.

:) Hi oldtimer, the tow bar is genuine and was fitted by independent jaguar garage. I agree with you paulE it has got to go, ruins the look of the car. 8)

I have a Witter detachable tow bar fitted sensitively by a local specialist on the box was a Jaguar Part number. No vibration and tows my small 2 birth with ease.
