Thanks for your kind remarks, Tony.
An eminently astute appraisal of the situation, me thinks.
Iain and I are in touch regarding an article and no doubt we will see something in the magazine in due course.
I`m keen that comments continue to build on this thread for a while yet. It will be a short while before Iain and I have got copy and photographs together for this, so please continue to post away. It all adds to what we can submit for publication.

Re: Tyres
Iain, you suggest the reasons for the poor handling as:-
'Firstly none XL rated tyres were the side walls flexed too much. Second directional assemetrical tyres on the front and none directional variable tread pattern tyres on the back. Third, The side walls on the Eagle F1 fitted front are stiffer than the continentals fitted back and lastly the continetals have better wet grip than the Eagles.
Combination....a car that handles like a tea trolley.
'
Most of these assumptions in my opinion and experience with both Manufacturers, I would question, they appear to be the feelgood storyline fed to you by the Tyre chain Manager, yes I agree mixing front and rear Tyres can bring certain handling issues but would very much doubt whether it was the cause of the damage as described, unless the Car has been subjected to some excessive load carrying. Yes the Continentals might be slightly better in the wet, however its also true that the Goodyear Eagles are far better in the dry.
Nearly all Cars, repmobile and above, are fitted with XL Tyres nowadays, some argue it has a detrimental effect on the ride quality, the legalities are that if the Car came with them you have no choice, whereas the opposite is true if not fitted as standard, I was led to believe that all Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetricals were XL rated, apart from the 15" range and they have been dropped from the catalogue in favour of the new Efficient Grip.
The strange thing about all of this is that the two Jaguar Dealers and the Mot station did not notice this (and I would have gone back to both to ask that question) the damage sounds so bad that it must have been there for a long time.
Is it also possible that since you have only had the car a few months, that the selling Garage, whilst in their posession, has swapped Tyres with another Car, (as they do to move metal) to the wrong type, is there a record of a Tyre change in the Service History.
Is it also possible before the Club runs with an article, that the Tyres are date sourced through the information on the side walls, possibly this info could be seen in the photographs, the Car is a 2007, it has the wrong Tyres that must have been fitted since then, where did they come from are they actually much older than the Car, was the Car lying unused and Tyres underinflated for a long time.
I just feel there are knee jerk assumptions being made here and remember its only the two rears that suffered delamination, when we don't really know all the facts.
Doug.

Re: Tyres
Hi Doug,
thanks for your comments. Unfortunately tyres have now been trashed although I still have the fronts in the garage (The F1s') Not being a specialist in the dynamics of rubber compounds, I have to bow down to the knowledge of those who are. I have used this particular branch of Kwikfit for many years and have no reason to doubt the knowledge nor integrity. All I do know is that T13 went into them as a car that I had absolutely no faith in its ability to keep me safe by going where I pointed it. Its handling was appauling, its ride was soft, bouncy and very uncomfortable and on the motorway it felt positively dangerous.
It came out 2 hours later a completely different car. The only ting that was changed were the tyres and wheels. The £1500 I spent on the lower front bottom arms as suggested by the jaguar"specialist" was a complete waste of money and a fool hardy excercise in throwing money down the drain on the advice of the so called specialists.
My journey home from work now is a delight. The country lane from work to home is 11 miles long and there isn't an inch on it that hasn't got a bump, dip, adverse camber, bend (get the picture) I drive it a sppeds that I would never in my wildest dreams have tried last week.
T13 behaves the way I expected it too when I purchased it. To be honest I had already made up my mind that if the change of wheels had not cured the problem I was going to give up on her and sell her off knowing as I did that my Wifes' Suzuki Swift 1.2 drove better than my Jag.
The tyres that came off had 6 mm on the front and 5 mmm on the rear so they were not that old on terms of miles driven.
So whatever the reason, whatever the cause the change has given me back the car that I wanted and the car that deserves the name Jaguar.
I do sincerely hope that this thread hightens peoples interest in checking their tyres more often. Not just the pressure and tread depth but a good all over check.
Note to Mike...I am not receiving the e-mailnotifications when the thread is updated. Any idea why?

Re: Tyres
Brilliant thread - lots to ponder for a new S-Type owner like myself. Humbrol's expensive experience may well prove to be a money saver for others. Maybe we should all buy him a drink at the National gathering! (providing his wife is driving home of course)

Re: Tyres
Welcome, Redcat.
Good to have you with us.
There is a fair amount of knowledge pooled on this S-type BB. Indeed there is on all model boards. I`m sure you will find more useful information as you learn the ropes and become involved.
Any questions, just ask.
Iain certainly had a tough time getting his car sorted. I think as you suggest, could certainly stretch to pooling our resources at Weston Park and buy him a coffee and a bun!
Don`t forget to register your car and help us monitor where we can best help our membership.
Do you have any images of your car? The guys would certainly like to see what you have.
Best wishes,
Mike

Re: Tyres
Hi everyone,
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the forum again......I'M BACK
I promise that this will be my last comment on the subject of my 2.7d handling. I have now covered 300 miles on my new set of Dunlops. I cannot put into adequate words the difference in the way my car handles and perfoms now. T13 really is a pleasure to drive and is fully living up to my expectations of the car that I thought she should be. I am now firmly convinced that tyre choice is a very critical part of S type ownership. T13 is now a sure footed motorway cruiser that does not tramline at all. She is also perfectly happy being thrown around the country lanes around my home. So, if you see an Indigo Blue S type around the Nottingham area with a guy driving it with a smile from ear to ear that will be me.
Still not getting automatic updates on postings from the forum, but hey, we can't have everything can we?
Thanks to everyone who contributed, offered help, advice and comments.
Regards
Iain

Re: Tyres
Will be my pleasure, Humbrol - small price to pay for the info in this thread.
