Fitting stagered 20” xf wheels

Postby RobXJC » Sat Nov 05, 2022 7:09 pm

Evening

I quiet like the idea of fitting a set of 20” wheels from an xf to my s type.
Is there anybody that has done this with pictures fitted to their s type?
The wheels I like in particular are the Jaguar Nevis. The same wheel design is fitted to the later xk8 r but they use a different rear wheel offset which isn’t suitable for the s type.
Cheers and thanks in advance for any pictures

No response on this so I assume everyone sticks to standard sizes

Hi Rob, I am not sure if the Nevis wheel design from the XFR would work on your S-type, but I think Rob Jenner at Exclusively Jaguar has a set of ex XFR wheels in stock. If you live nearby, you could always ask him for a trial fit! Remember though, even something as simple as changing from the non-standard wheels requires notification to your insurers, otherwise they have an easy out to any future claim.

I’m well aware of insurance, best thing about being older is that mods seem to be so cheap on insurance. I personally like the look of the chunky spoked wheel, the thing I’ve noticed with the s type is the really high number offset and it’s only really matched with the xf which really is the updated s type, floorpan wise. The later 19” str wheel isn’t a looker. When Jaguar used bbs wheels I thought the 18” Monaco was a good looking wheel. It’s a bit narrow for the str though. My original 18” Zeus wheels if only they were the split rim type I think would be perfect. Hence I’m looking at the xfr wheels. Using a larger diameter wheel over those big Brembo calipers and brake discs can only help keep things cool when pushed. Again just my opinion.
Last thing as you are a moderator. How do I upload pictures? I’m usually using an iPad or iPhone.
Thanks in advance for that help :D

Hi Rob, no intention to teach you to suck eggs, but remiss if we don't point out the foibles associated with change.

In regard to adding photos, first you need to reduce the resolution. Call up the particular photos you want to include and then by right clicking within the image you usually get presented with a "resize image" window (I don't use Apple, so this is for PC). Click on the middle resolution and save it where you can find it. Then in the "Post Reply" window on here, if you look immediately below the text box, you will see 2 x Tabs. Options and Attachments. Click Attachments, making it the lighter coloured Tab and then click on the "Add Files" box. Then it is simply a case of browsing to the folder where the image(s) are stored and adding, like below:

This is the rear of the Nevis wheel for the XKR (rear).

As a bit of an update for any future person reading, the Xfr 9.5jx20 et66 rear wheels fit the s type lovely even with 285 30 r20 tyres fitted and really set the car off Jaguar factory style. Matching style front wheels fitted with 245 35 r20 complete the staggered look. Currently no pictures as I’ve sent my wheels away for a refurb but rest assured xfr staggered 20” wheels fit lovely 😊.
Rolling radius is bigger than standard with the tyre sizes quoted but they do offer a reasonable sidewall to help stop wheel damage.

How does it affect the speedo reading?
It is fine if your speedo over-reads, it is illegal if it under-reads.
Subtle differences in rolling diameters can have a marked effect, especially when 1 mph can cost you your licence.

I knew someone would mention that. To be honest it’s illegal to drive with a bulb out and that’s nothing to do with speed.
Like I said before. Fit 20/25 series tyres or not. If you are worried then don’t do it. The info is for those who wonder if it’s possible. I’m not getting into rolling radius and speedo exact measurements. I’m interested in wheel and tyre clearance without changing body panels or fitting badly made hub spacers.
Just saying it fits.

It doesn't matter how shiny your wheels are, the average speed cameras will get you every time.
Your choice.

You are correct it is my choice and to remind you my thread was about fitment not rolling radius.
Start your own thread about speedo and average cameras. I’ll chat to you there 😊
