2.5 S type exhaust back boxes?

Hi. I have a 2002 2.5 petrol s type and am having real trouble getting 2 new exhaust back boxes. Most places don't have them and the few that do are really expensive. Does anyone know of anywhere I can get these of if any other parts are compatable? Thanks. Needed to get through MOT shortly.

These should be easily available from a number of sources.
As a starter, contact Neville Anderson at North East Jaguar Spares and say you are a member of the JEC. Nevs prices are very competitive.
You could also go on ebay or similar internet sites.
Our magazine also lists contact details for SNG Barrett and David Manners. You might also try British Parts, Just Jags, Black Country Jaguar, Berkshire Jag Spares or Norman Motors.
If wishing to buy second hand, contact Euro Jag or Auto Reserve.
Make sure you buy boxes suitable for the 2.5/3.0 litre cars. The units for the 4 litre cars are sound tuned differently so make sure you get the right parts. Have the last six digits of your Vin No to had when ordering as parts do differ across the model range and year of manufacture.
You will need to check the condition of the rear outside ends of the aluminium bumper bar behind the bumper cover. The ends of the bar corrode badly and if completely rotten will require an ali weld repair or complete replacement of that bar. It is off the bar that the rear exhaust boxes hang, being suspended by the usual rubber band type suspenders. If the bar ends fail, it causes the rear boxes to drop down towards the ground. That is obviously an MOT failure.
It is worth checking the intermediate exhaust section as being fit for further service. Complete exhaust systems are often not that much more expensive than just replacing back boxes.
Cars of this age should be checked for total structural integrity before fitting a new exhaust. It is rather pointless fitting a new exhaust to a car that has crumbling sills. Regretfully many of us are now finding such issues with our ageing cars unless they have been previously treated with a rust prevention treatment.
