103R legislation in the UK dictates that any car registered or used on our roads must be fitted with Type Approved catalytic converters and evidence that the equipment conforms be viewable for MOT purposes. Cars registered or used prior to that date do not have to use type approved equipment or show evidence of conformity.
It is essential that we are aware of this requirement if we are about to fit new catalytic converters to our cars. This applies to both OE spec parts and to after-market replacements including for example sports type 200 cell performance cats.
When having new converters of any type fitted, it would seem prudent to ask your supplier to guarantee that the product is 103R compliant.
