Lowering my S-Type

I guess this is a question for Mike but others feel free to comment..

Mike, first of all it was a pleasure to meet you last Sunday, Jackie and I had a great day. Thank you. We did pop back to see you later before we left but you were not there.

We discussed the possibility of lowering my S-Type slightly and you said you had some spare shorter springs that were surplus to your requirements. I don't want to alter the ride too much, so will I be able to use the existing dampers or will I need to fit different ones?

Yes, Les. I have the Adamesh spring set here somewhere which I took off my V8 S-type. The springs have only covered about 30k miles. They should give about a 25-30mm drop. I used them initially with original dampers and then with a set of 30% uprated B6 Bilstein units. The ride with the OE dampers and Adamesh springs was certainly more controlled without being uncomfortable. Body roll on roundabouts reduced considerably. With the B6 dampers fitted to those springs, a much more sporty and direct ride transpired. I liked that set up very much indeed.

Give me a call sometime Les. My number is on the X350 magazine pages. These springs are certainly available for a modest sum. I could post them to you without difficulty.

Excellent. I will use the standard dampers as I don't want to stiffen the ride. Ok, I have to check what my local garage will charge to fit them, as i explained Sunday I am hopless at doing anything requiring manual effort!

How many hours Labour do you think it would take to swap them?

Given the right spring clamp gear, preferably one of the lever or hydraulic or professional units, Les, less than an hour and a half per damper unit.

The new springs on the rear units need very little compression to fit. The front springs are a little longer but will not be difficult to a well set up garage.

This thread will interest you, Les. Ignore the fact the title says for non CATS cars. The springs will also fit CATS equiped models. viewtopic.php?f=200&t=4722
