Clicking sound

When driving particularily over a bump or uneven road surface a loud metalic clicking sound is heard mid to left front lower position of the car.

I sounds similar to a bonnet stay being loose, not having one i know that is not the cause.

I`d check vertical links from antiroll bar to bottom front wishbone. They click when worn out. About £12 a piece. Two 10mm nuts hold them in place, -one at either end of the link rod. Often corroded nuts therefore and angle grinder with a slitting disc will make short work of removing the old link rod. It is not a difficut job. About ten minutes work per side.

Anti roll bar bushes on 99-03 cars were very soft. They can bang and crash on rough roads and speed bumps. Replacements are higher spec. The nears side reolacement is easy, the off side can be a struggle.

Suggest car blocked off securely, with front wheels off. Dismantle vertical links, change anti roll bar bushes then fit new vertical links in that order.
Keep the roll bar unloaded torsionally. Ie now weight baring on it from either side of the car.

Doing the above as suggested makes the job as easy as it comes. Do the bushes without disconnecting the links and it becomes almost impossible.

I know. I`ve done it both ways and know which one I prefer!

That is as I`ve known knocks from the front. If bushes and links are not the problem, you might have to look further.

David Manners are doing the complete kit for £82.25. That is a good price. I once had to pay £126 for bushes alone!

Thanks for for your advice i will check the car and order the necessary parts , i will get back to you and let you know how i get on.

I think new discs and pads are also order of the day so i guess i wil do it all together, any suggesstions on who would supply the pads and discs at a reasonable cost, besring in mind it is an R and one of of the earliest models.

Aftermarket alternative parts for the R are rare. I suppose because the car is itself a rarety ans high volume production of aftermarket consumable to date has not justified heavy production by aftermarket suppliers.

You might try Brembo, direct to see if they might sell direct to you for discs and pads.

Otherwise it is to a Jag main dealer that you might have to deal with. Don`t forget most Jaguar main dealers will give discount on production of your JEC membership card.

I didnt receive the pictures of the car you sent, I do not know if it is a problem at my end although i have received pictures from another source so hopefully not.
