All,
since now some months, I have an issue with my S-type V8 4.0. When I turn on right, I have misfire. I (finnaly) desassemblied the fuel pump and plan to buy a new one.
The price in the official jaguar seller at Toulouse (france) is uncredible (close to 600euros!) whenthe price with SNG Barrat is around 400 euros.
I will be in UK next week close to Aylesbury and because Neville do not make me a proposal, I am looking for a Jaguar spare seller around Aylesbury, I hope found a better proposal....
Do you know one?
Thanks,
Richard

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
I removed the part,
found the filter in the tank, the part was "ejected" from the pump.
The fuel pump was desassemblied.

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
to remove the motor pump connector, push the small part of plastic and remove it.
The reference of the fuel pump is YW4U-9H307-BA and the reference of teh motor is XW4U-9350-DA.
I am desapointed because everything looks ok. I am not sure that the source of my issue is the fuel pump.
When I turn on right, it stop to work, I thought that something will be broken. A pipe or the motor but nothing......
some idea?
some experiences.

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Thanks to Pop for his Hampshire humour.
The filter dropping off the pump is a common problem. The early cars had filter parts that softened in petrol then they fell off. Suggest a new item direct from Jaguar be fitted. Otherwise permanent fixing with a cable tie might be a solution.
What parts do you now need to fix your car? You might try Eurojag for best quality second hand parts. Prices are a as a general rule, around 33% of buying new. Eurojag details in our magazine.

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Thanks Mike,
I start to be desapointed with my S-type....
Really, I do not understand what happen. I used it again this week and when I turn on right it is like when you do not have fuel on carburator engine. you need to drive fews meters (some 100 to 1000m) before the engine works propelly and the fuel come back.
If I turn slowing on right, nothing happen. On left, nothing.
On smal local raod, no effects. The typical effect is when I turn on right to acces to motorway (yes I know, for you in UK, you turn on left, it why probaly the Jaguar was designed....) or on motor way on larges curves. I really needs lateral accelaration to trig the issue.
This morning, when I oppened the fuel pump, every thing looks ok..... The fuell tank was full and the pump is in a midlle of fuel, I do not understand what could happen!!!!
I had an idea this morning, the car is controlled by lateral accelerometers (not sure the correct words....) I assume that the system act on breaking the wheells, but I don't know about fuel control.
I need to try to turn on right and puh the button close to sport to the off position. It control the traction, could deactivate the trajectoire control?
I will try to install my OBD tool on a laptop and monitor the fuel pressure parameter when driving. I have a traditional PC and on the garage, the fuel pressure is stable....
I saw this morning that David Marks is at Nottingham, I was at Birmingham two weeks ago... It was stupid to not go to speak with David, the next week, I will be close to Tring...., not to Derby!
Additional issue, I have an oil leackage on the left rank of cylinder. I probably not fitted correctly the cover "joint" when I replaced the tensionner... I need to repeat the job, on left (the right one is easy, it would not be funny!!!)
In two weeks, I will be in holliday and my wife whant to take the S -type to go to "Chateau neuf du pape".... I need to found and correct the issue !!!!

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Richard has now been sent three pdf pages from the Jaguar overview manual for the fuel system on his car. I hope that will help. Various other sections of the manual can be copied and sent on to member owners upon request although time may prohibit my immediate attention. Please use my JEC generic address for requests.
We have also spoken on the phone at length. There is valve in the system which Richard will now be investigating.
The operation of the fuel system is certainly complex. Two heads seem better than one on this issue. Once Richard has investigated further, he will get back to us here.

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Just a humble input on this problem, from the manual I see that the fuel pump is on the RH side of the tank (effectively two tanks due to the propshaft tunnel almost separating the two sides).
I wondered if when turning right if fuel would spill back to the LH side and so starve the pump a little. As the fuel flow from the pump also drives eductors to lift the fuel from the LH side to the RH side, then low pressure from a lack of fuel would take time to educt the fuel back?
As the pump apparently sits in its own small chamber to over come these turning effects would it be worth checking the integrity of the chamber?
Does it only happen on part full or also on full tank?
Brian

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Brian,
it is what I thought and it is why I desasemble both pump and every thing looks ok. Same issue empty of full gaz.
I made some measurements with OBD and measured the fuel pressure. It is stable whereas the engine does not work properly.
I assume now that the fuel is not the issue.
Need to work more.
The OBD measurements had reported out of range values from mode06 but they are not standard paramemeters and need to found the table from Jaguar design office.....
They are the following tests:
TID (Test Identification) and CID (Component Identification)
TID CID
53 7
54 0
56 0

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
what about a blockage in the fuel filter, dislodging/blocking on a right handed turn ?
also , the pump should maintain a constant fuel pressure in the fuel line to the injectors , maybe you have a loose or broken connection on the fuel pressure sensor ? that will be in the engine bay ,
i think you are chasing the proverbial goose with this one
just my thoughts

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Hi,
the fuel filter is new and the fuel pressure is correcltly measured by the computer (because corectly reported true OBD).
Take a look on the measurement. During this cession, I had a lot of issue. It can be observe a lot of oscillation on the measurement but the fuel pressure is remained stable......
Unfortunatly, the xls file is not supported by the forum....

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Hi Richard,
Have read this thread several times, as a passing thought, was the problem there before you did the chain tensioner?
Not really sure what you are complaining about, all your roads are straight,I think you sent all the bent bits over here!
I shall watch this space with interest

Re: Fuel pump spare parts
Hi Richard,
Below is an explanation of the OBDII codes, specifically the 'generic' codes (common to all petrol vehicles after 2001),
http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/
The list of Jaguar specific codes in the above site is not as complete and I have copied a list to a file on my laptop and can't remember which site I got it from.
Looking at your problem from another angle as your fuel pressures are OK, do you have basic ABS or Traction Control?
The reason I ask is that from what I have read Traction control goes beyond ABS and using a Yaw accelerometer and feed back from steering column will apply brakes to help in a spin but also cut the power to the wheels (I've read the last bit somewhere and can't find it).
Maybe the electronics are incorrectly detecting yaw whilst you are cornering and reducing power, it may be worth checking for dirty connections in this system or switching it off at the switch by the gear stick (although you can rarely switch all of it off). I've attached a manual you nodoubt already have that covers the car parts.
http://www.jagrepair.com/images/AutoRep ... S_Type.pdf
I seem to be coming very much an Anorak about the S type and wanting to understand how electronics and cars have advanced since the MkII. Hope it helps.
Brian
