Hi, and hope this is in the right place.
For approx 3 months I have been getting a strong smell of petrol entering the cabin (with windows closed) when either travelling forward slowly, or very strongly when reversing.
I have also noticed a drop in performance and a slight increase in fuel consumption.
The car has had a new airflow meter and a vacuum valve fitted, plus full diagnostic tests. These have made no difference. The car has been checked over on 2 separate occasions but no leakages have been found.
Any information or advice would be very welcome.
Richard

Hello Richard,
I had this on my 4 litre V8.
The gasket was missing on the fuel tank fittings unit. The car also would pour fuel onto the road if the tank was full and was parked near side wheels into the gutter on a slopeing road. Just the job outside my local pub, with people dropping cigarette butts into the gutter!
Got it fixed, no more smells! Perhaps this is the problem.
You need to take the rear seat squab out to get to the tank top. All nuts and bolts after that.
The fuel system is complex, but a little knowledge of how it works would no doubt be useful to you,
I`ll e-mail you a fuel system diagram that may be helpful to you. It is a five page pdf and is available from me to other members upon request.
Just e-mail me. mike.kennedy@jec.org.uk
The MAF unit (Mass air flow) sensor is "dry" as far as fuel is concerned and only senses the flow of air into the engine. The fumes will not be coming from that area.
Kind regards,
