Hello Mark,

If the rear panel has the same fixings as the front doors ( which I suspect it probably does) then it can be removed by grasping the bottom edge of the door panel and simply pull away from the door. Continue up the sides and then vertically lift the panel away from the door. As I remember there may be a PZ2 type pozi headed screw to remove from under the little rubber mat fitted at the bottom of the door pull before you start the demolition.

The inner door handle unit then has to be turned to alow it to pass through the door panel which you will have balanced upon your knees. Set the panel to one side having parted the various multiplugs. Don`t worry about mixing them up when re assemble occurs as they are all of different shape, size and colour.

On the inside face of the door you will find the plastic damp proof and waterproof membrane. This is stuck to the door with a rubber dum-dum mastic. Gently pull the membrane away from the door without damaging it. Refit by pushing back into the mastic sealer when you re build the door. This must be reinstated correctly at rebuild or the car footwell will flood with water when it rains!

At this point you can access the door internals. I remember the door solenoid/lock units are fitted with external Torx bolts. So a set of Torx bits will be required for the removal/rebuild process.

Before you remove the old unit, clean up the male and female multiplug unit for the lock solenoid. The fittings are notorious for electrical deposit corrosion. Having done that, you may find your existing lock works again!

If it does not, or you are sure the unit is unservicable, then replace with your new part. Having satisfied yourself that all is now ok, then rebuild the door in reverse order of disassembly.

There you go. Any problems, you know where to find my details.
