Hidden rust - rear wheel arches

If you remove the rear wheel arch liners, you will find an insulating? pad inside the rear part of the wheel arch. Remove this and in all likelihood you will find that the arch has rusted through. This will also be apparent if you remove the boot carpet covering the wheel arch. Not cheap to repair. I have found this on my 2002 S type and examination of another similar car has shown the same problem. Like rusty sills, its not until you start taking things to bits that you find hidden corrosion.
