Clean bill of health for "Mr Cat"

Postby Ladams » Tue Jul 18, 2017 4:09 pm

Today, my much modified and cherished S-Type "Mr Cat" went into the garage to fit the new lowered "Adamesh" coil springs acquired from Mike J44EAG. (Thank you sir).

Before they commenced the work, which as I write is near completion, I asked them to take off the sill covers and inspect for rust (a tip I learned in this forum). The good news is that there is no sign of any worrying corrosion. The mechanic also commented that the inside of the rear wheel arches, another area of concern for tin worm, were about the cleanest he had seen.

This is all very good news having spent thousands of pounds getting the mechanics and body to showroom condition.

I can now rest in peace that "Mr Cat" has a lot of life in him yet and I didn't waste all that money!

I will post pictures of the lowered car on here later.

My strong advice would be to get the waxoil in there pronto!! (and Oldtimer will be on to say the same I'm sure!)

Good to hook up again on Sunday, Les.

Glad to hear about the sills. As David says, flood them with Waxoil to ensure future longevity. That needs to happen or Oldtimer will bleat on about it forever...and ever...and ever!

I look forward to seeing the car on my old springs. Now you can throw it onto opposite lock around a roundabout!

Well now, do I just shut my "gob" or have another bleat - Um, yes it's time for another bleat.
The mechanic said Quote there is not sufficient rust to worry about, Oh yes, any rust is worth worrying about.
So did he have the back wheel arch liners out to examine inside?

Why do I bleat on about Wax Oil all the time. You have described how much you have spent on your S type to return it to an acceptable standard , it would be sad to discover that the tin worm has taken over

Once again, to all Jaguar Enthusiasts, spend some time and money preserving your motor by applying Wax oil in a liberal fashion it will save a lot of tears in the long term

End of Bleat

Thank you gentlemen.

To clarify, the mechanic said there was no evidence of rust on the sills, just some dirt and mud which he cleaned away. At my request he applied liberal wax oil :-) Yes, he removed the panels in the rear wheel arches and he was surprised how clean and rust free everything was. He is sure they have been cleaned out previously so it must have been the previous owner, who looked after the car meticulously inside and out.

Mike, I am very happy with the springs. I have tried the speed hump test and there does not seem to be an issue with tyres rubbing, so no need to roll the arches. I notice that the front has slightly more clearance between the tyre and the arch than the rear. I presume this is to allow for steering as the tyre is under the arch when cornering? In any event, I think it looks great.

Incidentally, Nigel still hasn't downloaded the files he asked me to send via "we transfer". They are about to expire for the third time, so to save me having to keep re-sending, would you be so kind as to give him a nudge please. Once I know he has them I will leave it to him whether he wants to use them or not.

Here is "Mr Cat" with the suspension fitted.

Kind regards to all, Les.

The springs will probably need a little time to settle, Les.
I`ve asked Nigel by email to download your material asap.
