PARK BRAKE WILL NOT RELEASE

On my 2005 S type 3.0 petrol auto the park brake has basically engaged itself and will not release. Showing PARK BRAKE ERROR. Starts, engages gear etc just won’t release brake What controls this? Is it any easy fix?

It would be helpful to use a code reader to read the stored codes for the handbrake. That would indicate where to start looking for the fault, which could be among the handbrake components or even among one of the transmission/fuel system interacting systems. Bearing in mind, the handbrake is electronic, don't overlook the simplest of checks, i.e. has it blown a fuse? Mike.
