I have a 2002 S Type 3.0 V6 SE Auto & have recently replaced front & rear brake pads also the brake fluid. Only issue arising was the nsr parking brake was extremely hard to wind back in (compared to the osr) to create enough space for the new thicker pads. For both i used the proper propriatory tool requiring only 1 hand to deal with the osr but considerable efford to move the nsr. Having driven the car a few miles the braking is much better however as a precaution on my return i jacked the rear wheels & the osr rotates freely but the nsr is binding. I know there is a calibration procedure to follow but feel in this case it will not help as the nsr mechanism was bordering on siezed before i started.
Anybody out there had this issue & if so how did you free off the offending parking brake?

Re: Binding NSR Parking Brake
Hello Peter
I would suggest the piston in the calliper is seizing. The clue being how hard it was to wind it back. Eurocarparts do an exchange service for the calliper at a reasonable cost, note wait until the end of a calendar month for the best discount. Bremtech do the same sort of scheme. Check both sites
I've had the same problem in the past. I assume you left the ignition key in at position 1 to keep the handbrake off whilst changing the pads and took up the re-setting of the pads with the footbrake before removing the key and applying the handbrake.

Re: Binding NSR Parking Brake
Thanks for the really good advice Dave & will follow up
FYI you can hold down the APB switch whilst turning the ignition off & the parking brake will not engage however to enable you to select N in the gearbox then as you say, position 1 on the ignition switch has to be selected.

Do this procedure one side at a time. Make sure that the sliders on the calliper are free. Remove the pads and get someone to press the brake pedal up and down till the piston is a good way out more then it would have been with the pads in. Then wind the piston back in. Do this two or three times then go for a test drive. If it is still binding then I would suggest you fit a new calliper.
