Rear Flexi Brake Pipes

Just been doing some maintenance on my 2004 S-Type and found the flexi pipes, from the rear body to the rear calipers (both sides) were very badly corroded. The bigger shock was the price of a replacement one (or two in my case!) - over £50 per side, plus the dreaded VAT.

The pipe is item 15 in the exploded picture.

Well, me not liking them prices (or just being a tight git!), I decided to look at alternative parts - remembering of course that brakes are not to be skimped on.

I discovered that a front flexi pipe from a 2004 VW Caddy had the right end connections and was long enough in length to do the same job - and they were only £10 each including VAT!

The only modification I had to make was cut through the threaded section of the mounting bracket, to re-use it to secure the Caddy flexi to the body. Obviously, you have to watch how you route it, so it doesn't catch any of the suspension whilst 'flexing'.

The job appears to have been successful - been using the car all week and no problems whatsoever.

A brake pipe is a brake pipe. As long as it does the job, it is fit for the perpose.

I`ll bet that car now has VAG emissions issues now!

popsjag I presume you mean both ends of the flexi pipe was corroded not the pipe itself.

The metal section of the flexi that is attached to the actual caliper was badly corroded.

i got the same problem, mine bust leaving me stranded, do you happen to remember the part number for the vw part.
the jag parts are really expensive, and hard to get hold of
