brake on/ brake off ......maybe HELP!!!

Postby mirach » Tue Mar 10, 2015 9:41 pm

hi all
my brother in law has just become the proud owner of a 2,7 diesel s type and I have to say it is a lovely car except when driving it seems to "hold back" almost like a misfire but I do not think it is engine related. the revs drop off momentarily so I rule out gearbox slip. it also makes a short groaning sound at the same time.
is it possible/feasible for the electric handbrake to be momentarily engaging and releasing whilst driving
has anyone else had a similar problem or have any ideas

Normally any Parking Brake fault will have a EPB message and a warning light show up, it has been known for the EPB Pad braking material to detach itself from the steel backing plate, might be worth checking for this, other than that It could be a sticking Caliper.

Any thing is possible. We know that electric hand brakes have thrown a variety of tantrums but I'm not aware of anything in the way you have described it. I am familiar with the mechanical side of things and would suggest that only a electronic control module mal - function could produce the random on / off that you are suggesting. I would be looking else ware for this problem before homing in on the brakes.

Hope that helps a little

This could be turbo related but I would check the induction side of things ie air filter/hoses ect as one in particular has a tendency to leak. The easiest way to tell if you have a binding brake is to feel the wheels after a short journey, The one that's causing the problem will be warmer than the others.
