Hi my 2001 S type V6 has developed an intermittent fault I was picking my son up from the airport and was locked inside the car! none of the doors would open from the inside, the remote key fob didn't operate anything eventually opened the door using the key thru window, everything then seemed fine except remote seems dead tried my other remotes no go either, changed batteries in two of them still don't work, car fine using key for two days then it did it again , anybody any ideas? trapped and confused of South Wales :( Normski

The door ecu module is in the drivers door, lower front.

It can be opened for inspection.

Suggest you unplug it then plug it in again as a starter. Plugs can get duff spots and the above action may cure the issue.

If you have to get a replacement unit, there are plenty around for not much money second hand . Make sure that what you are getting has the identical part number.

Oldtimer and Martec have some experience with the door lock system. No doubt they will be able to pass further comment.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi thanks Mike, I am going away for two weeks from tomorrow, so I will strip the door and see what I find, does it need anything to identify it to the car if I change the module and do I have to re-program the key fobs, if so is that a diy or specialist job cheers not so trapped of South Wales.

The module is a flat black box. Part No will start XR8......
Re programming of fobs is a specialist job but changing the module should not be upset that. I believe the security module is another box somewhere else!
