Odd Unlocking

Bear with me as a new owner. My S has been superb so far in the two weeks I have owned her, absolutely superb.

This morning, I pressed the unlock button on the key fob and must have let my finger linger a little bit longer than usual, but this gave rise to unlocking and then the windows went down a bit and the sunroof started to open....?! Is this normal or another feature?

I cannot find reference to it in the owners booklet. I manually, after starting the car, closed the windows and sun-roof (and this is NOT the weather to have this happen!), and there are no messages or warning and the car is normal in every other sense.

However, I did try this again and it does the same. Leave finger on the open key and she unlocks and then drops the windows a little and opens the sunroof........

Any advice or explanation?

Yes, this is a design feature for hot weather.

Do what you have done as you walk towards the car and open all windows and sunroof before you get to the car. This avoids scorching your eyeballs when you open the car!

Hey Up Equaliser,

Don't panic, that's what it is supposed to do.

So, you arrive back at the car on a really hot day. Press once to unlock OR Press and hold and after a short delay all windows drop to ventilate the car. All windows move simultaneously.

OR

When departing from the car and one or more windows are all or part open (or any combination of openness ) after a short delay the windows will close.

OR

With all windows closed and you wish to open them all by half an inch. Press and hold the open button ,when the desired opening is reached press the other button to stop.

Don't try this in the p*******ing rain just in case there is a problem

Don't worry Jeff,
It's and age thing!

I've only had my old XJ for nearly forty years and learned the other day that the boot light switch is operated by a Mercury switch.

Mike from the XK8 BB told me that.

Have a Happy Day
