Hi,
Does our July 2000MY Standard 'S' type have a 'Bulb Failure Monitor' please (can't find any reference to it in any literature)?
The reason I ask is that I like the reversing sensors fitted to modern cars as my neck doesn't swivel like it used to. So I'm considering fitting a set of 4 from 'Quanan' as they get a good write up and they offer a relay if a 'B F M' is fitted.
Thanks in advance for your advice or alternative suggestions (and I've heard those before as well).

My 2004 car has the BFM, To find out if your's has it I would just remove a rear light bulb and see what happens on the message sceen.

Thanks Jeff, I'll give it a go. The boss drove the car for the first time today and liked it, so now a priority to fit reversing aids!

To answer my own question............yes it has.
So a 2000MY standard car has a bulb failure monitor, so a relay will be required to feed the reversing sensors, unfortunately I've also found that there is a cable break in the feed to the boot lid, naturally in the bit that is supposed to flex as the lid opens.
The loom seems to be very poorly wrapped, I made my own for the MkII and I would have been ashamed to have made that mess!
I also have to find a 12volt supply at the rear for the relay, preferably switched.
All good fun, I suppose.

Re: Bulb failure Monitor, have I got one?
Brian,
When I fitted a tow bar and towing electrics I needed a 12v supply. I found an ignition controlled supply (just a short length of cable, can't for the life of me remember the colour or what was on the end ) located on the drivers side of the boot, high up behind the boot side panel.
Although I used the Jaguar supplied tow bar and external light control module, the kit for the 12S
Supplementry services (fridge etc in caravan ) was in my view a disaster. I needed to have an ignition switch controlled supply to operate a relay for the fridge.
As you know the boot light stays on for 40minutes before a timer switches it off. I have to say that I have never got into the boot shut the lid to see how long it takes for the light to go off !
I did'nt fancy stopping at a Service Station for coffee leaving the fridge on drawing 8/10amps for an hour and comming back to a flat battery. The point is that there is also a 12V supply on a timer
Hope that helps a little

The boot light goes off as soon as you close it, the 40 minute timer switches it off if you leave it open to avoid draining battery the same as it does all interior lights. You can see if the boot light goes out straight away by dropping the seat back forward.

Re: Bulb failure Monitor, have I got one?
The ignition controlled supply that oldtimer refers to is probably the one that Jaguar fit to the S Type for the aftermarket Jaguar Parts Auxiliary 12v Boot Socket Kit (kit part number is C2A 1403 around £37.00) it consists of a short wiring loom with fitted male Plug and 12v Cigar Lighter type Socket. With the o/side carpet panel removed, the existing wiring harness and female plug sits behind the black metal plate just under and behind the boot spring system, the plug is clipped sideways onto the black metal plate, you need to unclip it to get access, the plug also has a protective cover which you can remove to test with a Meter.
There are 3 wires going into this, no point in trying to give precise colours as I believe this changes model to model, however once you test them with a meter you should have a:-
permanent live..Possibly Red either with or without coloured stripe
a switched live... Possibly Yellow with a Blue or Black stripe.
an earth...Should be Black on its own.
Some owners have found the relay for the switched live is pre fitted, others have found its not.
It might be possible to obtain one of those plugs and make up your own harness.
Hope this helps.
Doug.

Thank for that,
I was behind that panel yesterday to find the cable to manually open the fuel tank (previously tucked away) and the rear light bulbs, found the big black plate with an ECU or some such on it, I've have a look again for the supply.

Hi Chris & Doug,
You are both absolutely correct with regard to the 12v supplies in the boot. By the way, jumping into the boot and closing the lid was supposed to be humorous! Come to think of it I don,t jump into anything very much these days.
While we are in the boot area you may be interested to know that I fitted 12v socket with flip up lid into the offside boot panel. I bought the Jaguar item out of the Accessory Catalogue, price £12. Yes it was several years ago. You will recall there is a 500amp fuse located above and forward of the battery. I chose to take a live feed from one of the fuse connections for the socket. The object being that I can push in a plug which is connected to a spare 12v battery which allows removal of the main battery. This will hopefully prevent memory loss (the car that is) I've never needed to put it to the test so it is only used as a battery charging point.
