OBD Data Link Connector

Postby frankhollis395 » Fri Jul 28, 2017 7:44 pm

Hi
Unable to find a Data Link Connector in my 2004 S Type Sport. Understand it is under the steering column side but unable to locate (not good at laying on my back in the footwell!). Presumably it has got one.
Any suggestions welcome.

Frank,

It does have one!

It should be to the left of the steering column. Drop your hand down to the lowest edge of the carpet trim and run your hand along to the extreme left hand side. The socket is a sort of oblong ie two long sides but the two ends each at an angle...a bit like a rhombus. /=\ The spacing of the diagram here is not proportional but will give you some idea of the layout. The socket is about 60mm long. It is out of square and your diagnostic plug will therefore fit only in the correct orientation.

If using one of the OBD bluetooth ELM327 plug in units, you may leave that plugged into the car on an almost permanent basis. That saves messing about trying to find the plug each time you wish to use your kit. Current drain is tiny and insignificant if you are using the car on a daily basis. Best to pull the plug if the car is used only infrequently.

My X350 currently needs a new rear Lamda sensor fitting. This throws an occasional fault code which frequently needs clearing when I`m out on the road. This week I`ve done nearly 1k miles and have had to clear the engine check light at least a dozen times since Monday! So my ELM327 has stayed in the OBD socket with my Android phone and Torque Pro app running whilst I`ve been driving. A couple of key strokes and the code gets wiped. As you can see the ELM combo or indeed something like the iCarsoft 930i unit is very useful to keep in the car. My new sensor arrived today and sould hopefully be sorted over the next few days.

Let us know how you get on. Come back to us if you experience further issues.

On the S Type its on the RHS of the Steering Column if you were sitting in the car, just below where the colour co ordinated plastic trim ends.

Thanks for the replies - I have located the socket and taken a set of readings on my Foxwell OBD reader.
