Hello Andy
Good to hear from another nut like me. Quite right about son, he will certainly dump it back on me if I'm still around, although I'll be banned from driving by then anyway
Sending Good vibes
Dave

Re: Window Controls
Hello Folks
Well it’s all happened again. I went to open all the windows using the Universal Open function on the key fob, all opened as they should letting the heat out of the car in this hot weather. Came to close them, nothing working.
Tried to start car, had been standing for a couple weeks without the trickle charger plugged in and the battery hadn’t enough power to engage the starter. So charged the the battery 13.3 volts, tried again still couldn’t raise the windows. Disconnected the battery shorted the leads together and tried again connecting battery, pos first as advised on Jaguarforum, still not working. Have now tried every which way and more to no avail. Could the Ignition switch have anything to do with it, I can hear a click if I press the unlock button on fob if I keep it pressed as though I was going through a window opening action again. No click if I press the lock button in the same way for a universal close. So I assume there is power to the module. All other functions on the module work normally. Any suggestions.

Re: Window Controls
That car definitely needs to go!
Seriously, sounds battery related to me, I would bite the bullet and stick a new battery in.

Re: Window Controls
Hello Andy
The battery was installed April 2017 so is over 5 years old. I did think it might be that but a new battery is over £100 about half the value of the car. I think seriously now that ASM might be calling. I'd feel awful if I off loaded it to some unsuspecting idiot who'd waned to buy an old Jaguar, they'd have to have a Bank in tow. I'd rather it scrapped for spare parts for other lunatics like me. Glad I have a German car as a back up it just goes and goes, the machine gun reinforcing mount doesn't bother me too much in the roof ready for the next conflict.

Re: Window Controls
Yes I can see your point of view, though if rest if car still going ok then maybe worth a £100 punt?

Re: Window Controls
Hello Andy
I've put a new battery in it, the one in my XF is coming up to 3 years old so I thought i'd get one and keep it if it didn't solve the problem.
Well, it didn't, so I have a replacement for the XF when that one bites the dust when the Battery Warranty runs out which seems to be the case.
I'm 90% at the point of phoning ASM, as an aside the MOT runs out on the 20th of this month. Although having been attached to this car in the 17 years I've had it I must admit it's been the most unreliable car I've ever had in 60 plus years of owning cars, A/C failure, engine had to come out,Brake failure, booster unit failed, new gearbox, torque converter failed, injectors needed replacing, even the horns rusted away, plus other minor gremlins like hand brake EPB failure, rear parking sensors have never worked properly the list goes on, at least the body has lasted.
Finally and I'm not sure if I'm tempting fate I had no trouble with my previous S -Type, Petrol, V6, and in 107000 miles i've had no trouble with my XF.

Re: Window Controls
Sorry to hear that Dave.
It's hard to let them go but sometimes it has to be done.
If you havent the time or space to break it for spares yourself then it's the only way I'm affraid.
It sounds like you have given the car more than enough time and money over the years.
Good luck anyway on your decision.
Take care and enjoy the XF.

Re: Window Controls
Thanks for the support Andy, I forgot the rusted coolant pipes (all of them), best break down I've ever had in the middle of France just a phone call to Green Flag and I was back on the road in about 3 hours to Pegasus Bridge towing our Caravan, the next being that engine coolant inlet moulding in the engine block down behind the a/c compressor cracked, the magazine was really useful on that one with a blow by blow account of replacing it in a X350 if I recall I thought briefly the ignition switch was the culprit, that has started playing up now, can't unlock or lock the car without putting the key in the switch then removing it. Good job the windows are stuck open so that I could lean in and put the key in. Then after a while the fob doesn't work so if the windows were closed I'd have to manually unlock the drivers door . All a bit strange. ASM here comes a lovely looking car, no rust with all new parts, admittedly, with 152,000 miles or so on the basic engine. I'm about to cry at my age.

Hello Folks
Well its all come to an end for the S -Type I have decided its the end and the car is going for scrap ,
(spare parts that is). The cost of an MOT and Re-programming the door module out weighs the value of the car.
Its funny but the relief felt at making this decision is amazing. The sums just don't add up. costs to keep it on the the road are just ludicrous.
German,Japan., Chinese and Korean cars here we come.
Dave.

Sad but probably wise. Can I tempt you with a 24 year old XK8 which is guaranteed to keep you tearing your hair out? Suspect not

Hello Folks
Just a quickie, the S Type has now gone, ASM took it last Wednesday to the scrap heap in Thame. sad time altogether but putting it back on the road would have cost twice the value of the car.
I'm looking around for a replacement now for it and the XF now, probably not a Jaguar Land Rover, given that my XF was stolen and recovered luckily and two Land Rovers a series 4 and a Range Rover were stolen in the village recently. Dave
