Windscreen washer fault

Postby dr.david.lewis662 » Tue Aug 13, 2024 3:26 pm

My 2007 3L V6 S-Type's windscreen washer suddenly stopped working. My excellent mechanic (not a Jag specialist) replaced the pump, which didn't fix the problem. His next diagnosis was a fault with the actuator button. However, he found a vacant connector for the headlight washers, which my car doesn't have, and ingeniously plugged the windscreen washer lead into it. Pressing the washer button at the end of the right hand stalk now actuates the wipers and the washers, but the latter are producing an intermittent, pulsed jet of washer fluid as would headlamp washers.

This situation makes it unlikely that the actuator button is the culprit. Any ideas why the triggering signal to the windscreen washer relay has packed up, whilst the signal to the (non-fitted) headlamp washers hasn't? All suggestions gratefully received.

Have the fuses been checked?
